The best-known person from a school I attended (Cottesmore St. Mary's, Hove) was Thomas Sopwith, of Sopwith Camel fame.

We have a new arrival in the bookshop - Eric Ravilious named this as his favourite book, and his wood engravings adorn the pages of this dazzling @littletollerbooks.bsky.social re-issue of Gilbert White’s 'The Natural History of Selborne'.

I've been waiting for the paperback (I don't get on with hardbacks, not that you asked) of Between Two Rivers by the splendid @moudhy.bsky.social for what seems like an age - just found out it's released tomorrow. Instant order.

RIP Robert Tinney (November 22, 1947 – February 1, 2026), the artist famous for his playful covers for Byte magazine, a hobbist magazine that ushered in the microcomputing age from the mid-70s through the 90s. I'm honored to have included his work in my own art collection.

Have you discovered our bookshop as yet?
There are some splendid titles there, particularly if you're an enthusiast of Eric Ravilious, Edward Bawden, Tirzah Garwood, William Morris and the art scene between the wars.

I've never been able to fathom why the Wicker Man (musical comedy about some bad apples) is shoehorned in with the other two (mean-spirited attempts at distracting the audience away from the bad wigs with even worse acting).
A lot of effort seems to go into trying to find a definition that will cover Witchfinder General, The Blood on Satan's Claw and The Wicker Man, when the first and third films on that list have so little in common.

Don't give up on your dreams.
If you wish to chase timid townsfolk away from the dark heart of the forest with the terrible grandeur of your shambling form, I know you can do it.
I believe in you.

A little known part of Mendip, where ant kings, queens, and warriors have been entombed since time immemorial.

I wonder if @dnthomas01.bsky.social would be good enough to answer a potentially dozy question concerning diatoms?

I think Grimshaw would have approved.
