Is this the year the Supreme Court began its emergency era?

"We are seeing #SCOTUS trying to adapt its procedures to keep up with the 21st century," says @williambaude.bsky.social.

The Supreme Court may have entered a new phase. Call it the emergency era.
The court reached the end of June having issued almost twice as many emergency orders as it did merits opinions. Is this an anomaly, or the start of a new normal?

Trump's mobilization of the National Guard (and active-duty Marines) in L.A. is unprecedented, but not necessarily unlawful.

But is the president helping put out a fire – or pouring on gasoline?

President Donald Trump’s new travel ban draws on lessons from his first term. He cites national security justification for the restrictions, while critics point to legal and moral problems.

As an institution, Congress has done little to check the executive branch in Trump's second term. Courts have been the main impediment instead.

Now, Congress is making a move. It's "trying to ease the way for the administration to ignore court orders."

A hidden provision in Trump’s ‘big bill’ could weaken the judicial branch
The 1,000-page domestic policy bill passed by the House of Representatives contains a paragraph that would gut the power of the courts to hold the executive branch in contempt.
