On the upside, knowing that I have Disgraphia means I have a root cause for my difficulty in forming sentences in my head. It's been the first real breakthrough I've ever had.

Some key things that are part of my game:

An initial phase where all players take turns playing units and structures.

Hand size is the amount of cards you have when you draw.

A phase called the "Payday Phase".

Advance Wars style CO's.

I feel like I'm taking a risk by having combat be as complex as it is, but I'll know by the time I play test it. Yes, I'm keeping dice rolls as a core combat mechanic. RISK STYLE BABY!!!

Question:

When you play a TCG, how much randomness would you tolerate? Would having a statline on creature cards that added ATK/DEF bonuses based on dice rolls be too far over the line? Cause I would think that it would make games have a different kind of strategic depth.

Game rules are essentially math, but so is the grammar and syntax of language. When you strip down to the studs, you can design to the hidden feelings the rule create.

Idea: Yu-Gi-Oh has a system of choosing attack targets and M:tG has a system of blocking attacks. Let's combine them.

Units on the field can declare attacks against any valid target, and any unit can intercept them. Minimize your losses by sacrificing lesser assets.

A previous post of mine talked about accumulating score as a win con. To elaborate on that, another idea I had was to directly tie Creature/Unit loss to score accumulation, probably equivalent to it's cost. Rather than going around the big, scary monster, you BRING IT DOWN!!!

Idea: Instead of a life total to drain in trading card games, have a point total to hit.

You can have the benefits of paying a secondary resource without having an abundance of it immediately.

Found out Monday that I had stage 2 hypertension. Immediately prescribed medication and told to change my diet. Started cooking healthy for the first time, and wow, I feel the difference.

My energy levels are boosted and my mood, (save for my anxiety episodes) has improved...
