I know I say this every year, but with results day on the horizon, please remember that for some kids grade 1-3 is a huge achievement. It represents years of hard work and determination. It’s not a fail. It is a GCSE qualification that they can and should be celebrated for.

Etymology of the day: ‘book’ comes from an ancient root shared by ‘beech’, a wood that people used for engraving inscriptions. ‘Paper’ comes from ‘papyrus’, and ‘volume’ is from the Latin for a ‘roll’ of parchment.

I thoroughly recommend the book 'Petit Pays' by Gaël Fayet. Selected for the Prix Goncourt des lycéens in 2016, I am sure it would really appeal to 6th formers. I've written a blogpost with my reflections and links to music and interviews etc. #MFLBluesky helenmyers.blogspot.com/2025/02/gael...
