In a month's time there will be a one-day IHRIM/NOTCOM workshop in Lyon on #Cartesianism and the #historyofideas. I will be discussing #Descartes on #fencing and also, as the background of the poster suggests, Descartes' opinion of #GirardThibault d'Anvers (spoiler: he doesn't like it)

Last weekend I gave a workshop on Angelo Viggiani's #fencing treatise in the Challenge Athéna, magnificently organised by the Compagnie d'Armes de Lyon: a two days event for #women in #HEMA, with workshops and a small tournament. It was great and we need more of this.

While #Descartes' biographers try to sweep the swords under the carpet, #Mersenne takes fencing very seriously. I'll give a talk on "Descartes Escrimeur" this next Tuesday at the Moment Cartésien.

On my way to Sorbonne University. A very nice opportunity to discuss methodology for the #historyofphilosophy with Philippe Hamou & Vincent Blanchet's Master students. It makes me feel rather old but also very happy to share a few things I would have wanted to know when I began research some 15y ago
