Next week, I will be discussing the #scholastic culture of #15th century #mastersofarms at the Universite de Lausanne. In addition to the pleasure of sharing this research, the workshop programme is wonderful. Many thanks to Joël Chandelier for organizing and inviting me!

Random #HEMA Internet find Pt 4 - the New Academy, and lessons from Mr. Vodromont, Master of Arms, in four parts, including parries and ripostes from single to double, Explanations in Questions and Answers, how to place a student and train him in a very short time and without the slightest fatigue.

In a month's time there will be a one-day IHRIM/NOTCOM workshop in Lyon on #Cartesianism and the #historyofideas. I will be discussing #Descartes on #fencing and also, as the background of the poster suggests, Descartes' opinion of #GirardThibault d'Anvers (spoiler: he doesn't like it)

Last weekend I gave a workshop on Angelo Viggiani's #fencing treatise in the Challenge Athéna, magnificently organised by the Compagnie d'Armes de Lyon: a two days event for #women in #HEMA, with workshops and a small tournament. It was great and we need more of this.

While #Descartes' biographers try to sweep the swords under the carpet, #Mersenne takes fencing very seriously. I'll give a talk on "Descartes Escrimeur" this next Tuesday at the Moment Cartésien.

On my way to Sorbonne University. A very nice opportunity to discuss methodology for the #historyofphilosophy with Philippe Hamou & Vincent Blanchet's Master students. It makes me feel rather old but also very happy to share a few things I would have wanted to know when I began research some 15y ago

Alexis Fontbonne on Book reviews socmed.hypotheses.org/86
As former co-editor of the Journal Studia Philosophica, I have noticed a similar tendency: The authors of the reviews tend to be at the two extremes of the academic social scale: PhD Students/Junior postdocs vs Full/Emeritus Professors
« Faire un compte-rendu » : l’affaiblissement tendanciel d’une illusio savante
Les différents textes constituant le cœur du « débat » autour de la NHMÂ sont des comptes-rendus et des réponses à des comptes-rendus, tous publiés dans la revue Le Moyen Âge. Or, le compte-rendu cons...

Last week I had the opportunity to discuss my research with the Geneva research team on adult education. Thanks to all of them for the valuable questions and comments on the experimental methodology! Last but not least it took place in the beautiful setting of Villa Boninchi

There seems to have been a medieval saying "doctorat vaut chevalerie" (doctorate worth a knighthood). That's nice !

Excellent!
We are four scholars whose work in some form deals with corporeality and being in the premodern period (early #medieval to #earlymodern). We are unhinged about our work. Check us out and feel free to email us details about your events and CFPs for our events page. #AcademicSky
