Yes there are groups campaigning as our system is failing as much as SEND system in England. We want to promote having more learning disability nurses as part of the assessment processes in education and educational planning or educating teacher, in our journey through education

I’ve found there to be poor knowledge base , lack of multidisciplinary working and reliance on “ toolkits” to support neurodivergent children in totally inappropriate environments. Hence all the “ ghost” children throughout UK.

We need more learning disability nurses. I’m biased as I used to be one. With increasing numbers of children with disability and additional support needs, the transferable skills LD nurses have (including education) are needed more and more.

Is it time for a Government petition to bring back the full bursary for LD Nurses. Many mature students made up the workforce in the past. We need to save the profession as it is in more demand than ever across mainstream and specialist services but numbers on the register are at rock bottom !
