ACIP has voted 8-3 to change the infant vaccination schedule for hepatitis B. Meissner, Hibbeln, Pollack voted no. Here's the language.

The risk of acquiring HBV may very well be similar between the US and Denmark, but the then the downstream access to healthcare to deal with that infection is NOT. How is she not understanding this?

Fair, thank you for point these out.

EtR and GRADE are not magic words just because you don't know what they mean or how to implement them, Restef. Stop cherry picking data. #ACIP

Every time Restef Levy opens his mouth I want to punch my computer. I don't know what fantasy world he lives in but it's not reality.

If #ACIP recommends against universal hep B vaccination, we will not observe a difference for another 50 years -- when people born after 2025 start developing liver disease in 2075 and beyond.

Huge disconnect noticed this morning with surveillance data and now. Yes, 60-year old adults are getting diagnosed with chronic hep B because their livers are starting to fail. What is missing is that most of them acquired the infection in early childhood, which we can prevent w universal vax! #ACIP

ACIP has just voted 6-3 to put off all of the hepatitis B birth dose vaccine dose votes until tomorrow, Friday.

Cody Meissner is seeking to delay all of the hepatitis B votes until tomorrow. Joe Hibbeln seconded the motion.

Because no one knows what they are voting on.

The CDC provided some real-world data on community/household transmission of Hep B at the last ACIP meeting.

It happens.

5. To protect not just a baby's liver (which is still worth protecting) but that liver throughout that person's life, HBV vaccination at birth remains essential.

4. The birth dose HBV vaccine has reduced the incidence of HBV infection as well as HBV-associated liver disease and mortality. Not just HBV vaccination in general, the first dose given at birth extends protection above and beyond vaccinating later.

3. HBV is not solely a sexually transmitted infection. It can also be acquired during birth and from household and daycare settings because the virus can live on surfaces in minute and invisible traces of blood.

2. Up to 1/3 of the world's population (~2 billion people) has evidence of past or current HBV infection. Most people don't know they are a carrier until they develop liver disease.

1. Nearly all people who acquire HBV in infancy will develop a chronic liver infection leading to liver disease such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma later in life.

The most vulnerable point in the life of a liver isn't when a person is 40, 50, 60, or older. It is when they enter this world. A few facts about HBV and the birth dose vaccine (in case you hear otherwise this week):

Another thought about the #ACIP voting questions. Can they vote on screening? I was under the assumption that they can only vote on vaccine recommendations given the current healthcare setting and landscape they would be provided.
December 4, 2025 at 5:23 PM
Why are we discussing votes already? Why are they only be read aloud and no slides? So they can't be screenshotted? What a mess.

Risky behavior for acquisition of hep B in children include: putting things in their mouths, biting, scratching, touching their eyes, etc.

"Waiting for vaccination until risky behavior" = shortly after birth, so no change?

So far, the Temu ACIP meeting is basically a bounce house of misinformation.

To be honest, I thought the number of cancer cases was low just based on random chance to be diagnosed sometime after vaccination. I was like "that's it?" Not scientific at all...

Does anyone know of a good US measles tracker? I’m trying to avoid checking each state DOH (or even more local) and the CDC isn’t breaking down by state (just ranges) nor by the 3 defined outbreaks. Please help!
