Number of European students travelling to the USA for a university degree remains... steady (number of Indian nationals is down)

Perhaps it will decline in the future, but worth to be a bit more critical about all the anecdotal exodus stories

I can totally see the Nobel go to the International Criminal Court

French MEPs (of all parties) are losing it with their opposition to Mercosur and the veggie burger

Thanks for this. As a political scientist, I find low citation counts in law (and history) curious given that there are many more of you. The disciplinary tradition of referring to primary sources, sure, but I think the publication outlets also lack behind (too few journals, too many obscure books)

Can international organisations be both effective and robust — or must one always come at the expense of the other?

COVID-19 exposed cracks in the global health system. Enter: The 2025 Pandemic Agreement.

A new ENSURED report by @ofernandezfdez.bsky.social & @mirkoheinzel.bsky.social finds the agreement to be a meaningful, if partial, landmark for future pandemics.

The WTO is under pressure to address trade-related agendas on development, the environment & inclusiveness. But with members divided, what's the best way forward?

In a new ENSURED report, @claraweinhardt.bsky.social, Michal Parizek & Jayati Srivastava explore these agendas.

Trump White House is casual on timing. UN ambassador Mike Waltz has only just been confirmed. And UNESCO withdrawal only came last week (was promised after 90-days). But curious to see what the State Department is coming up with. Fear it won't end with UNESCO, UNFCCC and WHO

Reminder that the Executive Order mandated 180-day review of all international organizations, conventions and treaties (with a view of withdrawing from them) is *Sunday 3 August*

More than 20% of EU exports to the US in 2024 concerned medicinal and pharmaceutical products and medicaments 👇

If those are subject to tariffs (Trump said "no", VDL said "yes"), the American healthcare system will be paying the bill

I value pluralism in IR scholarship, but we can certainly do with a few less "turns"

Proofs for "International Organization" (4th ed.) fully approved now. Book off to the printer

👏 Congrats to Anna Herranz-Surrallés, @johanadriaensen.bsky.social & Odile Felkamp on their NWO M grant for the project “Towards EU economic statecraft?". Exploring how geoeconomic tools reshape party-political dynamics in the #EU

Country I know best has already booked, in its national medium-term budget, a *reduction* of its EU contribution in the order of 1.6bln/year from 2028 😳

Commission proposed MFF budget looks reasonable at first glance

More evolution than revolution with competitiveness and defence receiving (rightly) substantially more money

Devil is in the detail and MS won't be happy with increase to 1.26% GNI (despite many new challenges) and new own resources
Today we present the EU budget for 2028-2034.

It's a budget for a new era, that matches Europe’s ambition.

That addresses Europe’s challenges.

That strengthens our independence.⁩
