One of the most insightful essays of the year. Thank you, @timothysnyder.bsky.social!
"The Grift Bubble: A Political Theory of American Collapse"
"Those who work against the grifters... may be acting from love, or from law, because they know that these things are real. And so they should also know, in acting thus, that they are the patriots."

Two weeks off did not help with post-marathon sciatica, so I figured I may as well resume running, and I actually felt better after the run.🎧 “Get Me to the World on Time” (1967), by the Electric Prunes. Had to do something to celebrate the Dodgers’ World Series Championship! #RunningPunks

I learned so much at this conference, especially about how to strengthen the mission and impact of university presses in the face of financial challenges and AI risks and opportunities. #BookSky #ChicagoSky

As I build my base back after Berlin, I’m going to try running again. After a year of run-walking alone, it’s time to rejoin the #SouthBayRunnersClub! 🎶 The Clash, Stray Cats, Billy Idol, and some 1960s for fun: “Nobody But Me,” by the Human Beinz.😊 Congrats to Chicago marathoners! #RunningPunks

#RunningPunks, meet @jrdarchivist.bsky.social, the author of the definitive, heavily illustrated history of punk fanzines in DC, Keep Your Ear to the Ground, new from @georgetownup.bsky.social, acquired by Hope LeGro! Today’s 🎧: “California Paradise” by the Runaways #BookSky @aupresses.bsky.social

#RunningPunks, I finally ran the #BerlinMarathon on 9/21/25 after a 4-week hiatus recovering from shin splints. Barely made it under the cutoff, but I did! Lots of punk music along the course. Berlin Wall Memorial, East Side Gallery, highly recommend. share.google/RYDk30xTbZmb...

open.substack.com/pub/joycevan... @joycewhitevance.bsky.social is one of the few Substack authors I read daily, and this essay is a great example of her special combo of precision, conciseness, and urgency. Plus it’s one of the best book reveals ever. #booksky

Sunday long run just before dark, taking procrastination to new heights. Finally had some energy. 🎧 Santana, Doors, Iron Butterfly, Byrds, Yardbirds, Animals, and we can’t forget the Electric Prunes! #RunningPunks #RunSoCal Reward: steak and Bordeaux.

Today’s run has to be called Dusty Trails in honor of the duo and their eponymous 2000 album. #RunningPunks Slow run-walk but longest run so far since 2018, the last year I ran a marathon. Today’s victory was recovering from a trip while crossing a road. Looked like Charlie Chaplin on roller skates.

Meandering early morning 11-miler to Nyhavn (New Harbor—only 400 years old), Copenhagen. No song today to symbolize the fact that Trekz headphones lost power midrun.😊 #RunningPunks

Humid sweaty swamp run before the Academy of Management conference in Copenhagen. There is a punk song about “the Danes.” If you know the artist, remind me in the comments.😊 #RunningPunks. Saw these deer on the trail—they had to run along it because the brush was too thick for them to cross.

Four-mile run/walk through the neighborhood trying not to think about so many things. Today’s song is one of my all-time favorites: Paranoid by Black Sabbath. RIP Ozzy. Funny thing though, I heard a double-time punk version years before I discovered the slower original. #RunningPunks

No doubt this news will be overshadowed by the Combs verdict, but let’s remember that LA is still under attack, two weeks after the No Kings protests. Journalists stick around after the cameras leave. www.latimes.com/california/s...
L.A. ‘under siege’: Brown-skinned people targeted, tackled, taken, and it must stop, federal suit says
The lawsuit seeks to block the Trump administration's 'ongoing pattern and practice of flouting the Constitution and federal law' during immigration raids in the L.A. area.

First 25-mile week in forever, capped by today’s slow-as-snailsh_t 10-miler. I would have been slow even without the photo ops because I was trying out a new watch and accidentally sorted my playlist by artist, which meant 3 miles of Santana ‘68–fast guitar but slow beats. Plus hills. #RunningPunks
