📊 ASH data shows that only 25% of adults know the truth about cigarette filters – that they provide no health benefit to people who smoke

As our CE @hazelcheeseman.bsky.social says, filters are a “marketing con to keep people smoking, protecting tobacco industry profits” 🚬
Experts issue warning after study's grim discovery on cigarette filters: 'In the interests of public health'
Researchers argue that cigarette filters originated simply as a marketing ploy and may actually do more harm than good.

Great to join the South East Tobacco Alliance as their roadshow visited Surrey. Their region-wide campaign is telling smokers about the mental health benefits of quitting and busting the myths that smoking improves mental health. Lots more to come in the next few weeks

2️⃣ASH's Chief Executive @hazelcheeseman.bsky.social’s opinion piece in the Grocer shares the opportunities that the smokefree generation presents to retailers, both for their business and community 🚭

Retailers have no need to fear new tobacco laws
The brilliance of the 'smoke-free generation' policy lies in how gradual it is - the change is seismic but the transition is slow, says Hazel Cheeseman, CEO at Action on Smoking and Health (ASH)

Retailers themselves support the policy, and @hazelcheeseman.bsky.social has emphasised that the policy is straightforward and workable 🛒

The policy only requires an update to age-of-sale signage and routine ID checks against a fixed date of birth, making checks simple for retailers 🚭
