At Full Council on Wednesday 11 February, Hastings’ councillors unanimously agreed the budget for 2026-27. For the first time in many years, the proposed budget showed a small surplus with several growth items agreed during the budget process to work towards the priorities set out in the

Littering and fly-tipping is illegal and can cost you up to £1,000 if prosecuted for littering and up to £50,000 for fly tipping.  

Hastings Borough Council’s Warden Team has recently issued four Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) to residents and businesses for fly-tipping and littering offences.

Following the announcement that Hastings is going to bid to be Town of Culture 2028, there will be two public meetings next week where residents and groups or organisations can help shape the bid.
The sessions are being held on Thursday 19 February at East Sussex College, Station Approach, TN34 1BA.

Groups across Hastings are starting work on a Town of Culture bid, supported by Hastings Borough Council and Arts Hastings CIC.

Town of Culture is a new government competition, which towns across the UK are invited to enter. The winning town will be awarded £3million to deliver a cultural programme

There is a flood alert in place for Combe Haven due to high river levels tomorrow (Tuesday 10 February). 10-15mm of rain is possible late Monday to early Tuesday.

Active Hastings are holding a Discovery and Try Day on Tuesday 17 February, at Summerfields Leisure Centre, from 1.45pm to 5pm.  

Children aged seven to 14 are welcome to try basketball, futsal, cricket, rugby, racket sports, street dance, muay thai and the interactive multi-ball / wall.

Hastings Borough Council’s housing acquisitions programme has led to fewer children living in temporary accommodation and has helped people out of rough sleeping in 2025. 
The number of children living in private temporary accommodation was 62 fewer at the end of 2025 than it was at the end of 2024.

Following a fire at the Former Convent site on Magdalen Road on 1 February 2026, Hastings Borough Council is reminding residents that this site is private property and is unsafe to enter.

Today marks the start of LGBT+ History Month. The lights in Bottle Alley will be rainbow for the month to mark this. The Pride flag will also be flown from Muriel Matters House and the Town Hall for the month
