ASOIAF.
My most idiosyncratic political opinion is that tennis courts at parks are racist and classist.
WATCH: MAGA defenders are trying to equate Trump demolishing the East Wing with Obama adapting the White House tennis court into a basketball court. @chrislhayes.bsky.social

His whole story is about finding meaning after disability. The story doesn’t hold back on the hard truths, it’s honest: yes it sucks, yes it’s hard, life isn’t going to be what you thought it was and you can’t do what others can do and what you wanted. But there is still so much you can do.

Now that the marketing push is over for Dunk and Egg show, GRRM can focus in on the best way to announce WINDS later this year
George is looking great in his vest and hat and clearly enjoying yapping about comics and other influences. #asoiaf #grrm #nycc

I don’t feel like i understand the relationship between Essos and Westeros.

Essos is way more populated, richer, and seems to have a more mercantilist/early renaissance economy than Westeros…

But there’s also Dothraki khalesars ravaging cities?

Yall ever stare at a map of Cretaceous North America and think it would be an awesome fantasy DnD world?
Farm fact: the South is famous for clayey red soil, but a lot of it is actually... sand. Like beach sand. See the yellow on the map here.

Why? It IS beach sand. That's where the shoreline was during the Cretaceous.

Pretty sure Obie’s talking about the day Winds drops later this year.

You can buy me a ginger ale at the next IAFC or whatever thing happens where I will be taking infinite victory laps.
Guys the day it happens I will be buying each of my moots a beverage of their choice.

Tell me what it'll be, I am making a list.

Sometimes, in my darkest days, think to myself maybe Ashara was just a weird red herring from early in ASOIAF to throw us off the scent of R+L=J, or one of GRRMs early series false starts (like Tyrion doing cartwheels at Winterfell, or Theon and Robb being bff’s, but not until Clash)

It’s funny and depressing listening to old podcasts complaining that winds of winter wasn’t out back in 2016 or whatever.

Thank the gods THIS YEAR IS WINDS YEAR.

Here’s how it would go:

Ned: free my sister you fucking cowards!

Dayne: we aren’t keeping her hostage, we’re keeping her safe! From you!

Ned: what?

Arthur: what?
ASIOAF characters who would kill their own siblings and nephews:
- Euron Greyjoy
- Ramsey Bolton (not even Roose!)
- Gregor Clegane
- one of those Vale Declarant guys I forget which
- that’s it?

DEFINITELY NOT NED STARK.

and Arthur Dayne would know that.

I’m not saying nothin, but the Tower of Joy doesn’t fucking add up.

Why would the Kingsguard need to fight and die to protect Ned’s sister and nephew from Ned and six Northmen?

Prologues, generally…
- Introduce a new place that we have heard of, but not been
- Put us in the head of someone who is a part of a larger order or group
- Show us something supernatural
- have a POV character who is powerless to stop the supernatural thing.
The prologues have patterns.

AGOT - North of the Wall (wil)
ACoK - Maesters (Cressen)
ASOS - North of the Wall (Chett)
AFFC - Maesters (kinda)(Pate)
ADWD - North of the Wall (varamyr)

Every prologue introduces us to a new setting/location.* Every prologue tells a relatively minor story*
ASOIAF Prologues and Epilogues, definitively ranked.

God Tier:
AGOT (Will)
AFFC-prologue (Pate)

Cool as hell:
ACOK (Cressen)
ASOS-epilogue (Merrit)

Very Dope:
ASOS-prologue (Chett)
ADWD-prologue (Varamyr)

Well Written but meh
ADWD-epilogue (Kevan)

You can already see Cersei’s paranoia and laser focus on high lords playing the game of thrones that we see full bore in Feast and Dance.

It’s incredible how deeply wrought most of these characters are

On Bluesky and also in America and also on earth. But let’s start on Bluesky.
Controversial opinion, but I think trans people should feel safe here on bluesky, and nazis shouldn't.

There’s way too much plot for GRRM to wrap up in only two books.

After Winds comes out this year, I hope he follows with A Dream of Spring and Boys of Summer

Three more books would be 50% better than two.
September 11, 2025 at 5:01 AM
Today I realized that the Sand Snakes only show up in one chapter.

Absolutely bonkers decision by the show to focus on Sand Snakes and erase Arianne who is a fully fleshed out POV character.
