Can’t believe the whole country has to suffer through the return of Dickensian childhood diseases because the worst, most ignorant attention-demanders decided other people’s expertise makes them feel bad

Here is a crazy idea: let people ride the #bicycles they like with the clothes they want. This goes both ways. Don’t judge people for wearing or not wearing spandex. Upright or aero positions are all fine. Let people just enjoy #cycling.

IMHO the latest #EzraKleinShow is one of the most disgusting episodes. Especially strange to quote JDV’s claim that the Nazi jokes were kids fooling around without mentioning these kids were over 30.

I just realized that having horizontal dropouts and full fenders makes it hard to get the rear wheel out. Oh well. #fixedGear #fixedGearLife

Which screw drive is your least favorite and why is it Phillips?

If you care about bicycle safety, please do not ask for bicycle helmet laws. It makes cyclists less safe. Having more people on bicycles makes cycling safer (by creating awareness, by showing demand for more safe infrastructure, ...). Bicycle helmet laws prevent people from cycling.

I prepared my Wabi Thunder for the rainy season by adding full fenders. They match the style of the bicycle well. I also added a pump and battery lights.

I spent some quality time with my Yuki sewing machine last weekend and made a bag to transport a foldable crate. I don’t have much practice but I’m happy with the outcome. #sewing

I'm looking into foldable e-bikes and I'm not impressed with what the market has to offer. A lot of them are rather heavy and seem more like electric mopeds (and indeed are usually class 2). #ebike #micromobility

I’m thinking about putting a larger chainring on my #LarryVsHarry #cargoBike. It has a 36T (and a smaller one; it’s a 2x). The smallest cog is 11T, giving me a max ratio of 3.3. Maybe I should try 38, 39, or 40T.

Whenever someone posts about traffic safety issues caused by cars, some wisecrack will say that they saw a cyclist run a red light or something. In fact cyclists follow the law more closely even though roads are dominantly designed for cars. bayareabicyclelaw.com/study-cyclis... #motonormativity
Study: Cyclists Follow Traffic Laws More Closely Than Motorists - Bay Area Bicycle Law
A common misconception among road users, especially in urban centers like San Francisco and Oakland, is that cyclists are negligent in regard to traffic laws – but scientific research is continuously ...

Renting a car for two weeks costs >$500. For that you can order a bicycle to anywhere in the US. At the end of the trip you can donate the bike or likely get it back home with you for a small fee. That will not be the greatest bicycle but sufficient to get around. #travelTips #bicycle #CarDependence

Beware of any politician doing this. It’s a major red flag of the most cynical political opportunism, weaponization of lies & misinformation, and manipulation of some consultant’s idea of a “wedge issue.” It would waste public money, risk or even cost lives, weaken the city, make traffic worse, etc.
Current Mayor of Christchurch New Zealand Phil Mauger is campaigning for reelection on basis of ripping out bike lanes! This for a city that used to be famous for cycle friendly infrastructure before earthquakes of 2010 and 2011!

Secretary Duffy believes the U.S. DOT should NOT be funding bicycle infrastructure.
He said
“I do think you see more congestion when you add bike lanes and take away vehicle lanes. That’s a problem.”
Disagree?

There is a new #bicycle repair station and a new bench on the #CedarRiverTrail between #MapleValley and #Renton, a bit east of Ron Regis Park. Very nice. #pnw

Tom Lehrer died today. His main activity as a satirical musician was in the 50s and 60s but many of his songs are very relevant today. Specifically “Wernher von Braun” and “Who’s next” (both on the album “That Was the Year That Was” 1965).
