I think I'm going to pause short fiction for a little while to focus on editing my novels. I'm so close to done at this point, one of them will be ready for pitching after this last revision 🤞

DO SOMETHING ALREADY, the writer yelled, hoping for action, choice, revelation. His characters did not hear, lost as they were in pages and pages of senseless interiority, dreaming of sprawling backstories, of dialogue they decided not to say and of things they would not actually do, ever ever ever.

I installed a camera to see what was going on with our water feature that kept being taken apart at night (I recently filled it with rocks with a central fountain so it wouldn’t be constantly muddy), figuring I’d see a raccoon. I hadn’t expected an all-night pool party! 😂

A modest request: can we just not with “smut” as a popular term for romance novels? Especially in a moment when queer authors are being called pornographers for just writing?

Ozzy Osbourne visited my magic shop. He said he'd like to buy some stink bombs. How many? All of them. I had to go through drawers finding every last one. He bought 900 of them. To sign the credit card slip I handed him a shock pen, which he thought was hilarious and bought that too. RIP

You're laughing? Someone who pretended to write a book but didn't want to do any work used a program that pretended to write a book but didn't do any work, and you're laughing??
This is fascinating: www.reddit.com/r/OpenAI/s/I...

Someone “worked on a book with ChatGPT” for weeks and then sought help on Reddit when they couldn’t download the file. Redditors helped them realized ChatGPT had just been roleplaying/lying and there was no file/book…

John Scalzi was really onto something with the setting design in Annihilation. Why make everything grim and bleary when you have reality bending at your fingertips? My eldritch abomination turned the world neon and pastel.

Which means. That I need to try query agents interested in fantasy romances that don't follow the romantasy formula or have much in the way of "heat". Battles: I've picked one. 😅 If anyone has any suggestions, hmu

I'm considering marketing the novel I'm querying as an ace-spectrum fantasy romance because I'm ace spectrum and, while I appreciate why people like it, have zero interest in adding spice or a more sexual focus to my novel

Important.
Incredibly important report on AI training & copyright released today by the European Commission. It gets lots right, slamming the idea that creators should be required to opt-out of having their works used for free by AI companies.

It says:

- Generative AI must be based on opt-in consent
