Come for the education policy for incarcerated and other systems-involved students, stay for the cats!
The best summation of the research I’ve ever heard is “people with guns get shot.”
seeing pushback to this, but I'm sorry, it's correct. buying a gun just makes it more likely you will die by a gun. don't buy guns.

Btw the money that they keep saying is being held for LAFD's raises are in this "separate account" HASN'T even been transferred to the LAFD's operating budget as of this date!

How do we know all this?

Because we're the City's Accountant! We know the City's budget and finances.

As we witness these heartbreaking scenes from the fires in LA, an important reminder that incarcerated people make up over 30% of California’s forest firefighters.
30 percent of California's forest firefighters are prisoners

In an additional layer of scams and middlemen, I paid cash for mine and it was $200. Often the astronomical fees are only charged to insurance, completing the circle of inefficiency.
Good morning to everyone except United Healthcare who is denying me coverage for breast cancer genetic testing *that my obgyn ordered* because multiple family members had or have breast cancer. This includes, btw, my aunt who just passed away from said cancer.

Gisèle Pelicot has transformed France. In a nation where rape is a given and rapists are hidden by design, her insistence on an open trial and her repeated mantra that "the shame must change sides" has led to a radical change in understandings of sexual violence.

I am not apologetic about criminal system reform

Criminal system reform makes our prisons safer for incarcerated people and correctional officers, it also makes our communities safer

Overcrowded & understaffed prisons generate crime

Prison generates more crime than incapacitation prevents

What a day with leaders across California who are improving access to higher education for students who are, or who have been, engaged with the juvenile justice system! Especially grateful to the student leaders who shared their experiences
