#WriteCBC task from @rachloudriscoll.bsky.social: Write a mini-scene where the setting is central. Is it friendly, hazardous, or a victim? Try to convey not just the place, but the importance of its role. That might mean bringing in conflict or raising a question that involves the setting.

Interesting discussion re use of author blurbing authors
The problem is unlike movies who have trailers, music who have Spotify, theatre who have reviews and permanent venues, books are purely cover, title, name and blurb to send a message in seconds when browsing.
#Author blurb is a signifier.
Simon & Schuster's flagship imprint is going to get rid of those little quotes from other authors on the back and front. I'm torn, having been a bookseller, a book reviewer and having been asked to write many blurbs. I'm also on holiday so I can't columnise on it, so here's a 🧵 instead.
Why Simon & Schuster’s Flagship Imprint Won’t Require Blurbs Anymore
In a decision some might call “stunning” or a “tour-de-force,” new S&S publisher Sean Manning has decided to no longer require authors to obtain blurbs for their books. Here’s why.

Welcome to our #5ActFestiveStory competition!

Complete Act I by following on from @clotimms.bsky.social's #WritingPrompt: 'It was on the twelfth consecutive day of snow, the country held in an icy standstill, when a postcard arrived. Sodden and exposing just two words: I’m sorry.'

What's interesting about this trend for book marketing AI companies—who secure £Xmil in seed funding, get a write-up in the Bookseller, and will now wither away, leaving only a slime trail of AI generated goop across the surface of culture—is mainly what it says about capital’s engagement with books
