UNICEF and its partners are using water trucks to provide life-saving clean water to displaced children and families in accommodation centres in Ilha de Moçambique, Nampula.

Access to safe water is crucial for preventing waterborne diseases.

The third cyclone to hit Mozambique in as many months has destroyed schools, cutting nearly 20,000 children off from education, and damaging or destroying over 20,000 homes, initial reports suggest.

First drone footage of #CycloneJude impact shows devastation from winds & widespread flooding in #Mozambique’s #Nampula province. This is the *third* cyclone of the current season - a large scale response will be needed to support the 100s of thousands of people being impacted.

#CycloneJude is causing destruction & flooding in areas already hit by two cyclones in the space of a few months, putting children and families at risk. @unicef.org is working to respond but funding and supplies are limited. I shared an update with Bloomberg News: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Cyclone Jude is the third cyclone to hit #Mozambique in the last 4 months & made landfall in Nampula province on 9th March, bringing heavy rains & flooding.

UNICEF is concerned about the impact on children & families. Ahead of the cyclone, we prepositioned large quantities of essential supplies.

#CycloneJude hitting #Mozambique now, threatening destruction across Nampula & Zambezia. Around 1m people at risk, with 1200 schools and 120 health care facilities likely to be put out of action. UNICEF is on the ground, ready to respond, but needs will likely exceed capacity.

Another 2 cyclone systems in the Indian Ocean / #Mozambique channel. Not projected to hit Mozambique (Madagascar seemingly at greater risk) but clearly shows the elevated risk of climate shocks in this region - Mozambique already having been hit hard by Cyclones #Chido & #Dikeledi this season.

Several districts in Manica, Zambézia, and Sofala provinces have seen sharp increases in acute malnutrition among children under 5.

Urgent funding is needed in #Mozambique to reach 15,000 children who are at risk of missing out on lifesaving malnutrition treatment in 2025.
