New Blog: Disrupting Red Pill Thinking in Adolescence

If our classrooms cannot make space for young people to grapple with truth and meaning then where else will this happen? Online?!

I spent four years investigating these sorts of claims.

Children aren’t being taught they’re inherently victims or oppressors. Teachers aren’t leading kids to change genders.

Instead these claims are used as a pretext to sanitize history curricula and impose conservative Christian ideas in schools

this is gonna be the way things work over the next few years- the admin getting like 1% of what it wants and losing almost every negotiation while the lapdog press spins every loss as a huge historic win, it's literally the modi model
Let me get this straight. Petro calls for dignified transit. Trump threatens tariffs. Petro smacks Trump in a post threatening his own higher tariffs. And Trump agrees to what Petro asked for. And yet NYT is calling this *Petro* backing down?

As a graduate of Ancient History at Cardiff, and one of those courses undoubtedly underthreat, this sadens me greatly.

One of the best things you can do right now is read books. Buy them. Borrow them from the library. Gift them.

Read history. Read fiction. Read science writing. Read anything that shows you the world is bigger than what fascists say it is.

Read to remember why your resistance matters. 📚💙

It's arguably more extreme than anything Enoch Powell said.
Bloody hell. This person was nearly the leader of the Tories.

I don't think I've ever heard Farage come out with stuff this extreme.

With Musk pimping for Reform, spreading hateful misinformation, calling for our govt to be brought down and one of its MPs to be imprisoned, all decent MPs should question whether they should be on X at all. They’re enabling a profoundly undemocratic threat to our country by being on his platform.

Really enjoyed River East River West. A lot to reflect on for those of us living and working in education in China.
My favourite China books of 2024:
Shanghai Tai Chi – Hanchao Lu
Surrealism From Paris to Shanghai – Lauren Walden
Gilbert & George & the Communists – James Birch
Zhou Enlai: A Life – Chen Jian
Red Emperor – Michael Sheridan
River East River West – Aube Rey Lescure

Thanks @mauricejcasey.com for writing the wonderful Hotel Lux. Some of the most engaging history I have read in years. My long suffering IGCSE students will hopefully benefit from the new perspectives and thoughts that this fab book has left me with.
