Novelist, children's book author, short story writer, and game designer. Husband, father, and New Yorker. He/him
I wrote the first chapter on the new novel last night.
At the moment, I am writing without an outline. I haven't done that since No Small Bills. We'll see how long I last before I break down and build one, but for now it's fun. 💙📚

Done! Yesterday I typed "The End" to The Dry-Dock Deduction, my Sherlock Holmes novel. This will be part of Christopher D Abbott's ( @cdanabbott.bsky.social ) Watson Chronicles, which he generously invited me into. I'll read it over this week, run it by my beta readers, and then send it in.

Last night I went to support pal and fellow writer Keith DeCandido at the book launch for his latest novel, the original supernatural police procedural Supernatural Crimes Unit: NYPD. Congrats, Keith! It was a great event and I got to catch up with some old friends and make some new ones. 💙📚

Printing presses kept their letters in cases.

Capital letters went in the upper case.
Smaller letters went in the lower case.

This is why we say ‘UPPER CASE’ and ‘lower case.’

Ok, but what did we call them before the invention of the printing press?

MAJUSCULE and minuscule.

After dinner and spending time with @jendaby.bsky.social I cleaned up the book interior, roughed out the cover, and set up a book page for it. Also took the dog out for a nice walk--it was gorgeous out! Not a whole lot else but hey, it's Friday!

I stared the new story over the weekend--I'm just shy of 2k into it, which means I'm about a third of the way through. I'll finish it tonight or tomorrow.

Last night I sat down at my computer as usual, opened my files, looked up a few locations and some other details, and got ready to write the next chapter.
By the time I sat back to catch my breath, I'd written over four thousand words.
So, yeah, I think we can safely say that chapter's done. 🙂
