The Bonus Army was a group of WW I vets who went to Washington to demand payment of a bonus during the Depression. Congress rejected their demands, so President Hoover sent in the Army to evict the vets and burn the camp using gas, bayonets, and tanks. The response led to Hoover's defeat in 1932.
