I have to say that I'm reaching the point where I just don't want to follow the news anymore. Reading an article about Trump's big crypto scam (the one where the US would buy huge amounts of the things) turns my stomach almost as much as his abandoning Ukraine does. Every day it's something new.

Ineffective government eventually leads to support for a strongman who'll ignore the rules. Mussolini told the Italian parliament that anyone who voted against a bill giving him dictatorial powers would be shot on the spot. And the public *cheered*.

The big question is what are they replacing Assad with? An Islamist group for sure, but more like Turkey or more like Saudi Arabia?
Rebels are within 6km from Assad's palace. Locals are tearing down Assad images & signs 15 minutes from the Palace. Russia is fleeing Tartus port and Iran is evacuating forces. An emergency meeting to be held between Turkey, Iran, Russia, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. #freeSyria

I think the only cost-effective way to protect social media is to require real ids, much as Facebook does. It doesn't eliminate the problem, but at least you've got a chance at it. Anonymous speech is the real problem--or at least a very big one.
