"high-social-capital person who has done a lot of good in their community goes off the rails when a building is proposed near them" is one of the more common NIMBY types, and there is basically no way to persuade them that they're on the side of evil now

Virtue and Moir are two Olympics retired from ice dance but just Moir being back as a coach is making people online discover their uh, history and have the same reaction of "they just went off and married other people??"

Western Canada should separate, just on paper while maintaining free trade, so that Canada can field two curling teams at the Olympics. Like at the Brier there's Northern Ontario/Southern Ontario teams.

I'll just say it... I don't like relay races. Too much complexity.

Discord must be the biggest platform for sports rebroadcasting now. I literally just scanned the long list of servers I barely check for ones that had a voice chat icon, and found a Super Bowl stream in a random Twitch streamer's server.

Seeing posts of people amazed that FPV drone operators can follow an Olympic downhill skier or luger at 140km/h for a great camera angle, they've evidently haven't been watching Ukrainian drone videos pop Russians daily for the last three+ years.

I can say in retrospect of 16 years that the Olympics have some kind of occult power where just watching another country’s opening ceremonies flashes me back to the surreal chill of the first day of Vancouver 2010, simultaneous joy and anxiety.

Reminiscing about Olympic Ceremonies and remembered Catherine O'Hara was in the 2010 Closing Ceremonies.

I'm sorry but the "Pattison Group is selling a building to ICE" news story is a laughable attempt of Canadians trying to insert themselves into an American issue.

TSN is YouTube streaming full coverage of The Scotties women's curling if you VPN out of Canada. (noticed because I had the VPN fired up to watch PWHL on YouTube "outside Canada")

Upgraded from iPhone 11 to 17 and my first speed test was launching the horrible but frequently used McDonald’s app.

the SkyTrain is one of the best decisions we ever made as a region+province, and it almost didn't happen; there was a ton of "expert" pressure to build ground-level non-automated light rail instead

Unfortunately folks I think I have to give up on all other municipal progress, become a one issue voter, and that issue is a soccer stadium six blocks from me. Selfishly I might have to vote for Ken Sim just so I can maybe enjoy tailgating in New Brighton Park someday.

Happy 40th birthday to Skytrain, as loved as it is still underrated in how much weight it carries to make our region not just another suburban sprawl wasteland.

Moment of reading the name in a news post and realizing that literally NO ONE in western TV media was saying the name of the Hong Kong tower complex with the massive tragic fire because no one wanted to say “Wang Fuk Court”.
