In more fun news, I'm now at the point where I'm trying to learn how to set up the game's main quest and story to work properly!

Like, quest flags and dialogue and stuff.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but learning new stuff is fun

Trying to figure out why my CP-pen tablet is only working properly when work area is set to "all monitors", despite the fact that it's only interacting with the bottom monitor (the screen on the tablet).

If I actually switch to the tablet being the work area, it only uses the bottom half of it

It was only yesterday I realized I do not, in fact, have to write custom code to make our game's music loop properly. You can just put a region in the waw and Godot will know where the loop begins and ends lol

metaphorically banging my head against the keyboard trying to figure out how the get a Godot shader to do what I want it to do.

Also feeling embarrassed because apparently the thing I don't understand is so basic that people can't even comprehend what it is I need help with

trying to figure out how to mask a sprite in Godot. It's harder than you think!

I checked the "deterministic" box in the AnimationPlayer and it somehow turned the player into a ghost

discovering that making the "enter" prompt a child of the train animations have consequences when the train is turned around

update: seems like it wasn't the backgrounds themselves that caused the lag, but the 2D lighting. When I removed the backgrounds I saw a big difference in performance, so I mistakenly thought that it was all the parallax backgrounds that were causing trouble.

trying to debug my game, it's terribly optimized and won't run at 60fps at high resolution. And it should definitely be able to do that. Like, it's a tiny 2D game.

I'm just a noob at game development and coding and all that stuff

I got around to publishing the next episode of Gravity Break on Tapas! It's got queer cyborgs and transbian catgirls and cool stuff like that!

Time to get a new keyboard, I guess. Shift button isn't working properly. And that one's pretty important
November 2, 2025 at 7:25 AM
by the way, when you export and image as PNG (or some other format) and the program lets you choose "compression level" where apparently the only difference is file size...

why? Why would you want the larger file size? Assuming that quality is really unaffected, of course

Krita refusing to open since yesterday is... kinda annoying

I'm bad at posting updates about it, but I'm actually really satisfied with how our game is coming along.

There is a lot left to do (like, most of the actual game). But there is solid progress, and I'm learning a lot in the process

Another day, and the cycle continues...
update: now my tool script crashes the engine once again, which I find incredibly odd
great, I managaded to create a @tool script in Godot that automatically crashes the engine on startup....

Probably I can just edit the script externally to solve this, but still. Gotta be more careful I guess

We implemented a setting to change all text in our game to the OpenDyslexic font for accessibility, and I wrote a bit more about it here on the Patreon.

finished drawing the edgy rival character for our train game. #art #indiedev
August 25, 2025 at 7:23 AM
Designing characters is easily the most fun part of drawing to me. Trying to come up with an aesthetic that is at the same time visually appealing, communicates the character's personality, and makes sense in the context of their setting.
