Initial thoughts re: the Stranger Things finale, no spoilers...

It's fine. It puts a nice bow on the personal and interpersonal threads of all of the main characters, and frames the surrounding events in a very ✨️cinematic✨️ way.

But not everything works for me and there are loose ends??

My Top 10 Horror Films of 2025 concludes!

#1. Sinners

My love for From Dusk Till Dawn notwithstanding, Sinners is a masterpiece in its own right with its own identity. Soulful, dark, and bloody, Coogler's period vampire flick is 2025's best...

This 10,000%.
I’ve got a 2026 resolution for some people.

Stop saying that you don’t consider that horror movie you liked “horror”.

Weapons is horror. Sinners is horror. The Substance is horror. Hereditary is horror. It is okay to admit you enjoyed a horror film, you pretentious prick.

#2. Weapons

Probably not a huge surprise, but Weapons is a great film. Not only is it a legitimate gateway horror, it's a unique multigenre project with excellent moments of suspense and, of course, Amy Madigan.

#3. Bring Her Back

My Terrifying Trio of 2025 begins with the most unflinching and disconcerting horror on this list. The Philippou brothers' sophomore flick is a more mature effort than Talk to Me, eliciting a wealth of raw emotion.

#4. Black Phone 2

This sequel is quite a different beast than The Black Phone, both tonally and conceptually. The snowy, isolated camp setting pairs excellently with the Nightmare on Elm Street-influenced premise and an icy Grabber.

#5. Dangerous Animals

This is a taut, innovative serial killer thriller, featuring a very interesting concept which director Sean Byrne executes with fervor. Jai Courtney is brilliant and generates so much expert-level suspense.

#6. Companion

Going into this movie with zero knowledge of the plot is best. The twist is great and the ensuing chaos is paced and structured very well. Sophie Thatcher excels in, arguably, her best role, and Jack Quaid is a gem.

#7. The Ugly Stepsister

An (actually) morbid reimagining of the classic Cinderella story, The Ugly Stepsister is a standout this year. Emilie Kristine Blichfeldt's direction is fearless and Lea Myren as Elvira is fantastic.

#8. Heart Eyes

If you told me Heart Eyes would make my Top 10, I wouldn't have believed you. Sorry for doubting, @joshruben.bsky.social. This movie is an absolute delight with a cool killer, gnarly gore and whip-smart dialogue.

So far, pretty good. Of course the latest episode is basically a whole bunch of setup for the finale, but that's to be expected from the grossly overproduced cinematic product that Stranger Things now is.

That being said... I look forward to seeing this journey out to its epic conclusion.

#9. Frankenstein

I had a feeling Frankenstein would be a visual feast—I was right. The film doesn't fall into the trap of being too different than the source material, and its differences are a bit more.. therapeutic.

#10. V/H/S/Halloween

Maybe a controversial pick from the jump, but a theme starts here: horror that doesn't take itself too seriously. As a big V/H/S fan, “Halloween” is an absolute blast and I pretty much dig every story.

Gravers, in lieu of a Top 10 Horror Podcast this year, let's count my 2035 list down until NYE.

Honorable Mention: Predator: Badlands

Horror-adjacent but not enough to justify making the list. Still a huge breath of fresh air for the franchise and very fun.

We already know about the planned Betty Boop horror but I would actually be more than okay with a legit Nancy Drew horror movie. Anyone else?
