Fingers crossed that the FT features team finds another interesting woman worthy of the prestigious Lunch With interview. 1 in the past 14 weeks is...odd

In the media, men are ambitious. But women unapologetically so

Maybe this is Starmer’s problem. You learn more about yourself and others from losing. If all you do - or think you do - is win you never improve, adapt or listen

A government with no plan, no sense of mission, no connection to its MPs, no determination to stick to its guns, few ideas, little ability in telling a compelling story and which is not very good at politics has just lost its architect and guiding force. Is that such a bad thing?

New data from Pew Research but I’d love to know what ‘somewhat ethical’ means.

It’s interesting that this writer suggests humans exhibit their ‘innate’ abuse, racism and general vileness in real-life public forums like… the pub and football matches

An extraordinary way of apologising: ‘If it hadn’t been for the emails, I’d still be in Washington.’
Or in other words…I’d have gotten away with it #poorme

Peter Mandelson: Epstein is like dog muck; the smell won’t go away
Peter Mandelson was sacked as ambassador to the US because of his links to Jeffrey Epstein. Now, he has resigned from the Labour Party. Is this the end for him?

Congratulations to Maggie Aderin-Pocock for reminding FT readers that women also have lunch. There are a couple of others over the last 6(!) months

In his valedictory column for @nytimes.com David Brooks ⁦‪hits on the core problem that we’re all experiencing, not just America. We’ve forgotten how to be human, moral and cultural

Nick Clegg claiming the new ‘dispensation’ (he means ‘publishing’ but fears using the word) of news and views is fairer cos editors aren’t in control. An argument which ignores the fact that if an editor publishes a lie they’ll be sacked. On social media they’re promoted

The desperation to be ‘first’ with a story on social media means that journalists forget that their job is to check what they’re told not simply report it. Or they’re just glorified stenographers. The truly ‘surreal’ element of this is that Robert Peston can’t see that

At the end of this story we’re told Jill Popelka, CEO of British company Darktrace, commuted every few weeks from her home in America. Might that lack of commitment have led to her sacking and why did the board allow it in the first place?

A wonderful piece of interactive journalism from @nytimes.com in which images and words come together brilliantly. Of interest especially for interior designers - chandeliers, gold and marble are clearly in this year www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

The ultimate check and balance is held by people. This is the turnout percentage of the midterms over the past 50 years. If you don’t like what’s happening - or if you do - express it by voting

Isn’t there a third option for Starmer? If Andy Burnham becomes an MP again, give him a plum job such as ‘communicating the difference the government is making’

Having just watched the wonderful Marty Supreme - one of the most Jewish films I’ve seen in ages - this from @ezwrites.bsky.social is so good

Only at the end of this superb @ftweekend.com article do you realise why Here There Are Blueberries is such an important play. But - as ever - the FT forbids any comments on a piece mentioning Jews. Because its readers are antisemitic? Why ban discussion @janinegibson.ft.com ?

Without regulation, social media will become even more toxic. These companies, such as @bsky.app which is run by Jay Graber, need legal constraints. Let’s stop calling them ‘ecosystems’. They’re publishers. That’s how to fix them

Everyone who loves cinema will love this story @nytimes.com The squatters who ‘bought’ and revived one of Paris’s great theatres, Le Clef. It’s now run by volunteers and you can pay whatever you want for a ticket nytimes.com/2026/01/21/mov…

Watching Trump at the World Economic Forum I’m reminded of when my dad suffered from an undiagnosed urinary tract infection and started babbling nonsense, repeating himself, acting the bully and telling me how much more brilliant he was than I would ever be. Has anyone checked for UTIs?

James Orr is one of Nigel Farage and Robert Jenrick’s closest advisers. He admires authoritarianism, JD Vance, far-right philosophy and fundamentalist religion playing its part in politics. And yet nowhere in this Times article is he identified. Anywhere. Why?

A breaking news story
A British news story
A 5-star film review
All really interesting @financialtimes.com articles that are perfect for readers to get involved in.
But comments are banned. Why? Is it because the words ‘Jewish’ and ‘Israel’ appear?
