Author of 25 NF books on cryptozoology, Lovecraft studies, pop horror, and PreColumbian Folderol (some II'll even admit to). Really more a sea serpent enthusiast than general cryptid fan. Occasionally plays an expert on TV.

Monster Quest is back and packed with artificial intelligence
The iconic series Monster Quest has rebooted for its 5th season in 2026. Unsurprisingly, the AI sequences are the least misleading part of the presentation.

Mama always said if you can't say something good about a person, don't say anything.

Erich Von Daniken has died. Good.

Today's deep pondering in a niche research field:

When Claire Beck hitchhiked cross-country in 1938, he made various stops to meet Lovecraft correspondents. Yet, he does not seek out James F. Morton while in Paterson, NJ.

Going to drop below 50°F in Southern Florida. The falling iguana alerts have been issued and the emergency shelters are on standby.

Now comes the "fun" part. Testing the heating coils in the A/C and spending the rest of the day with that lovely burnt dust and insect aroma wafting through the air.

Chud, Chuchunaa, and Hidden Others – Modern Cryptozoology

Chud, Chuchunaa, and Hidden Others
Chud is part of a collection of words that has a long history and refers to the idea of “the other”. Tales circulate that these secret people still appear on occasion.

Well, the next book is off to a flying start. I spent hours fine-tuning a proposed table of contents, carefully wrote up a proposal, and sent it to the publisher with a typo on the proposed word count. No, it is not a 10K book. It is a 100 K book.

If anyone ever wondered what shape my financial records are in, I just finally shredded the 1995 medical records of my MIL, who died in 2002.

You know it's time to reassess how strong you like your coffee when you spill some on your pool deck and it holds the color better than the cement paint.

WHY AUTHORS DRINK

Next book goes pre-order next week, so I'm finishing the indexing to finalize the page count.

We realized my intro appears twice, so publisher deleted the extra text.

Which changed the pagination by 2 pages. But not consistently, of course.

Goodbye two weeks of indexing.

A couple of little blurbs praising this book would finish the back cover.

Too bad nobody has actually read the damn thing yet.

I just had a Royal Poinciana taking down. Hated to do it, but the tree was badly placed and the roots were getting into the waterline.

Tree removal service was a ballet of efficiency. THis team never said a word, just knew what to do and when. Impressive efficiency.

Nothing says "you may be getting older" like tripping on a smooth flat unobstructed uncluttered surface and giving yourself a coffee bath simultaneously as you bounce off the cement

My next book is out in a few weeks and I am making a prediction.

Someone will make general statements of how it's a useful book but that the biographical appendices are probably better suited as a standalone book.

I'm not saying they're wrong or right, but rest assured, it happening.

Thanks to marketing use of AI, my pen name David Bernard is getting daily mail advising him of his medicare options (I assume that means he's 65 or older)

Today, my father-in-law got his 2nd sample issue of Conde Nast Traveler. I assume that means their primary demographic are the elderly deceased.
