The bullying started in Ishgard after Ava was forced to start assimilating with their voidsent, since any kind of resistance would end with their execution they had to either run and hide or try use illusions to lose them quicker while running home whenever they had been outside to get books

Hecate was the type to revel in constant growth and change so they were highly genderfluid to try out all possible identities for the sake of experiencing every unique perspective on life, this interest in change passed on to all shards including Ava who chose to be non binary
