At a time when billionaires are making wild promises about techno-utopias, it's worth taking a closer look at Apex Legends' map of Olympus: a doomed utopia where unquestioning belief in the goodness of science proved to be its downfall.

From Gulliver's Travels to Ghibli's Laputa, there's a long history of doomed floating utopias in the arts. Apex Legends fits neatly into this tradition - and its city of Olympus delivers some pointed criticisms of current-day society:

If you're an aspiring Tolkien nerd, you should take a look at In Deep Geek's channel. The videos are around 10-15 minutes, laser-focused on specific topics, have great narration and are really well-argued. Highly recommend!
