I’ve spent my career inside ERs and health systems.
In 2025, I watched what many patients already knew: the system finally broke.
I wrote this in TIME magazine this morning to name what failed—and what has to change.

“AZT killed more people than AIDS” is false.

I was a medical resident in the late 1980s. AZT wasn’t perfect, but it saved lives and was the first step on the way to modern HIV therapy.

We've got a MASSIVE DEEP-DIVE rebuttal to the NIH leadership’s recent essay. They're arguing for a head-in-the-sand approach to pandemic preparedness.

The great @angierasmussen.bsky.social joins me in an extraordinarily detailed, line-by-line fact check.

Hospital at Home and other telemedicine services should not have been tied into this continuing resolution. It’s time to pass permanent legislation

Making telehealth flexibilities permanent is the right call
Lifesaving telehealth regulatory flexibilities are set to expire Sept. 30. Congress must act now to pass bipartisan legislation to expand telehealth.

@cbs6-richmond.bsky.social Thank for sharing this article and reaching out to Governor Youngkin. He could help Virginians by signing an executive order allowing pharmacists to give a vaccine without a prescription. This would also save doctor’s offices from being inundated with an unnecessary ask.

Back in the beginning of his term, Governor Youngkin wrote about the choice of getting vaccinated. I hope he is willing to sign an executive order to allow Virginians that choice now

@meghin.bsky.social It should not be this hard for people to get a COVID-19 vaccine if they want one. As someone who was a hospitalist during COVID before vaccines were available, I saw the difference vaccines made in reducing severe illness and death. Hopefully Virginia can adjust.

NEWS: CVS, the largest pharmacy chain in the country, is currently not offering Covid vaccines in 16 states and DC — even to people who meet the new FDA criteria — because the CDC hasn't signed off and isn't expected to do so (if it does so) for at least three weeks.
