Heat waves in Milwaukee since 1981 using the 95th percentile threshold. The year 2012, when there was widespread drought in central US, was really exceptional. #flashdrought

I read an article in Journal of Hydrology and am dumbfounded by errors. I cannot believe the reviewers and the editor didn't catch them.
Recently I saw several dumbfounding errors in articles in highly-cited journals. They don't change the conclusions of the studies, but it's shame anyway.

I learned today that the NSF grant I'm a co-PI for has been terminated with immediate effect. Our team had been given some kind of assurance by the program officer until recently, so the impact is even bigger.

A U.S.-born American citizen is being detained at the request of immigration authorities despite an advocate showing his U.S. birth certificate in court and a county judge finding no reason for him to be considered an “illegal alien” who illegally entered Florida.
