Controversial opinion: you should charge membership dues for your community.

Why? Quality will go up. You will have more resources. You can give more time. You can spend less energy.

Every community person I talk to says you need a clear purpose, mission, vision.

Meanwhile the most successful community I’m in doesn’t have clarity, they have conviction.

They move forward despite ambiguity. That to me is the secret to their success.

The best way to not dox your community is to not collect their emails at all! If you’re trying to get everyone on a shared google doc just set it to editable by anyone and share the link.

How to get free tickets to conferences: email them and ask. 😊

Can someone fill me in: Isn’t federation the exact opposite of privacy? Was this not all public to begin with?
Exciting news: the relative privacy you’ve enjoyed here under the closed beta is now blown wide open, and there’s no way to make your account private.

Are there any tools out there to scrub your account?

Exciting news: We’re taking another step to making Bluesky an open network for public conversations.

Around the end of this month, we’ll release a public web interface. With this, you’ll be able to view posts on Bluesky without being logged in on an account.

I think I realized the reason I’m not into bsky is actually the same reason I’m not into t/x anymore. I think I’m just tired of the scrolling through random commentary. I want to hear something real from ppl I genuinely care about. Not the click bait rambling of strangers.

Trying to charge an EV is the most stressful driving experience ever.

On Sunday night in LA, 50% of the stations were on private property. 90% closed. 75% out of order. Leaving 1 charger… with 2 cars waiting to use it.

I finally found one at midnight with a 1 hour limit.

Do not travel with an EV.

I just found out that ads that show a countdown timer are lying about the time. They actually run their clock 2-3x slower. That shit should be illegal.

Day 1 of dweb camp:

“All software should be CRDTs.”

“People don’t really understand what a blockchain is.”

“Global consensus is weird and mostly we don’t need it.”

“Federation for the win!”

I never want to be anyone’s boss because I never want to have a boss.

But the structure of a corporation is very much like a monarchy.

And people joining a company often expect it to operate that way.

So how do you assemble a team where everyone is an equally responsible player?

Social wallets are not and should not be the same thing as crypto wallets.

Social apps don’t need to know how I spend my money.

Exchanges and digital shops don’t need my shitposts.

In which I post a daily shark fact 🦈🧪 on Bluesky every day unless I forget in which case they’ll be more like daily-ish:

Sharks are covered in tooth-like scales called dermal denticles- different species have different shapes!

One of the most annoying things about web3 apps right now:

Asking users to login on mobile with a wallet.

This is so harmful..

It’s too easy to forget to connect with nature.

Even just going for a walk or sitting in a park is not enough because your phone is there to distract you.

That’s why I love surfing. It’s just you and the board and the ocean.

I truly do believe AI will take over much of the content creation on the web and a boatload of our user interactions.

That will bring with it a new grunge/punk/underground revolution, an uprising of IRL hacking events, and a surge of doxxed social spaces online. Here. For. It.

I stopped doing buildspace after week 4 of 6. Here’s why:

1. Too insular
2. Best for marketing what you’ve already built
3. Literally a popularity contest
4. I was too far along in my fundraise
