No hit wonder. Author of EIGHT crime novels set in Glasgow. https://www.amazon.co.uk/stores/John-Callaghan/author/B007QUZBTW?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=true (bad ratings are political, truly but weirdly).

Economic migrant.
Aye, so I don't follow international football, etc etc etc.

I'm making a wee exception tonight.

If the UK is on the brink of civil war, as Musk claims, it follows that in 300 years time there will be be a new generation of civil war re-enactment societies.

Andy Pandy, right?

I assume his proper name must be Andrew Pandrew?

Went to Africa, very keen to catch a Southern Ground Hornbill - missed it 5 days, and caught it on the final drive; wasn't disappointed.

Also, they have *mad* eyelashes.

Christ, somebody in the pub has deployed a ukulele and they're hesitantly making bad noises with it.

If they become any less hesitant, then we go to the mattresses.

It turns out, it's not The Rangers, it's Biltongland.

There was a time when the least mourned (or, most-celebrated) public-person death was Thatcher.

Now overtaken decisively by the wretch Watkins.

May his name never be spoken again.

Watched from my desk as a Sparrowhawk caught and consumed a Great Tit.

Some of the pics I took were on the gory side, but this one just shows what a handsome cove he was.

Just typed the name of a bird (the type that shouldn't vote for Christmas) and it auto-corrected to Türkiye.

So, I'm making meatballs out of a country.

I see a Vietnamese singer has won Russia's Intervision song contest, held in Moscow on Saturday.

Her name is Duc Phuc.

Well...

Vietnamese singer Duc Phuc wins Russia’s Intervision song contest
Vietnam was among 23 countries competing in a glitzy Russian song contest, revived three years after Russia was banned from Eurovision.

Unrelated points -

1. in the current world situation, one thing I learned from Latin is the meaning of "casus belli".

2. the older I get, the more I realise how much I learned from Latin.

3. for clarity, I did go to a Scottish state school

4. re point 3, MANY of us did and we're still here.

It's great when businesses (and other organisations) treat you (a customer or member) like an imbecile.

Such as - "...members will receive an increased 25% discount... more than double the usual 10%!"

The exclamation mark to emphasise *just HOW much bigger* 25 is than 10 is beautifully redundant.

The empire has now collapsed. The BBC news page refers, in a news story, to a "bicep".

FFS, biceps is a *singular* word, you illiterate formerly-authoritative news source.

How long will it be until "reign in" instead of "rein in" and similar solecisms (which you think are an orange ice-lolly)?

Had never heard of this guy Kirk.

Seems like a wretched piece of garbage.

Don't believe in murdering people you disagree with.

So, aye, thoughts and prayers like they say when children are murdered because of some Amendment.

Bob Mortimer sums it up, tho, just after 2:00.

Am I correct to think that Kasper Schmeichel has just played in four successive 0-0 draws?

No! Celtic did score against Livvy, so it's four 0-0s out of five for the svelte shot-stopper.

Which player has participated in more? (And/or fewer?)

And what're the odds on a 0-0 at Rugby Park next week?

It's wild how some people maintain with *utter certainty* that player X will be a giant fud/useless waster/wage thief etc.

The mad thing is the complete lack of doubt about what is *just your opinion*.

I hope y'all are just as successful with your gut feels IRL.

I know there's a firestorm of right wing garbage everywhere and this is only a microcosm, but I see that Alberta has banned both 1984 and Brave New World.

I read both at school. How surprised those frowny purse-lipped Marists would be to discover they were dangerous radicals, letting kids do THAT

The eternal truth about penalties - if you put the ball *there*, the keeper will save it, unless by good fortune he jumps the wrong way.

It's basic geometry.

So why do players so often put it *right there*?

"Blooter" is a great word.

It's not a great *thing*, though.
