Providers of geospatial data throughout the world: please move away from your dysfunctional APIs and download portals and embrace cloud optimized geospatial formats for both raster and vector. It will be less work for you and much better usability for us. #geoparquet #stac #cog

In @geobon.org BON in a Box, a pipeline was working for every country except Austria. It turns out it's an issue created by the Jungholz region being connected to the rest of Austria by a single point, on top of a mountain. A topolitical (?) situation leading to an interesting technical challenge.

Discovery of the day. A bounding box over Antarctica on the new @maplibre.org globe looks like a Pokemon ball.

I'm always going back and forth between terra in R, rasterio and rioxarray in Python, or GDAL, but when all else fails, my old friend GRASS @grassgis@fosstodon.org is always there to do the job without memory issues, weird crashes or missing GDAL dependencies.

McGill University just released its Biodiversity Atlas, to which I and the @qcbs.ca have collaborated. It's nice to see universities taking biodiversity issues seriously and defining indicators of progress at the very local scale. reporter.mcgill.ca/the-mcgill-b...

This week the Quebec Centre for Biodiversity Science held its annual conference.

Our theme “mobilizing science in support of conservation” created a buzz among the 300 attendees from across our network of universities and partners in conservation and gov.

Thank you to all who made it happen.

Spending a very stimulating week at @esa.int in Frascati, Italy for the #biospace25 conference, focused on observing biodiversity from space. I'm here thanks to @biodiversite-quebec.ca to learn about EO solutions for biodiversity, and working with @geobon.org colleagues to showcase BON in a Box.

I'm really liking the @maplibre.org globe projection view. When combined with Titiler and COGs in our STAC catalog, we can finally visualize custom layers without the distortions created by the Mercator projection. Performance is A+ as well!
