Got some brutal developmental feedback on my 35k word novella. And the only way to fix it is to make it into a 60k novel with an entirely new 1st act in front of the existing story.

I like my story to get right into the action. But little setup means the reader cares little about the protagonists

I think it’s puzzling to see the number of authors self publishing using full AI covers, and most of the readers have no problem with it. But will scream to high heaven’s if an author is caught using AI in their writing.

Now to get $3k from Meta, OpenAI, Google etc, etc, etc.

The outcome i would have preferred to see was a royalty payment. The AI will use what it has stolen for years to come.

JUST IN: Anthropic has agreed to pay at least $1.5 billion to settle a lawsuit brought by a group of book authors alleging copyright infringement.

That’s at least $3,000 for each copyrighted work that it pirated—well below what Anthropic may have had to pay if it had lost the case at trial.
Anthropic Agrees to Pay Authors at Least $1.5 Billion in AI Copyright Settlement
Anthropic will pay at least $3000 for each copyrighted work that it pirated. The company downloaded unauthorized copies of books in early efforts to gather training data for its AI tools.

For those frustrated with the amount of AI in google image search when looking for references images. And not knowing if an image is AI or not.

Duckduckgo browser has a setting in image search you can toggle on and off that filters majority of AI images.

Time to make duckduckgo default browser

Personally, I thought this was a bloody good movie. Better than most that came out in the same year.

Ok. this is done for now.

I know there is more I can work on it. But I rather learn from this and move onto the next one.

Definitely got a better feel for the brushes on this painting.

Also started working on a new digital painting. Went for a simpler portrait image, as I wanted to test a different combination of Photoshop brushes. These am liking.

I feel I’ll be experimenting with a million brushes till I find the look that suits me.

Holy cow, the reddit writing, self pub and fantasy forums are littered with "my first chapter.. what do you think of my awesome idea" posts, that are so obvious AI

AI books are flooding amazon right now. Making any new book published, just noise

Now reddit posts are full of "my book has no sales!"

I have shared a lot of my writing in the past.

But for some reason. the thought of sharing and publishing my first book is fucking scary.

It’s like you’re officially putting it out there to the world to be judged, and I, the author, totally complicit in this masochistic ritual.

This is the first Cornwell book I have read and so far enjoying it.

Finally feels like I’m seeing the finish line with this book. Definitely a huge learning experience. Book 2 will be a very different approach. Sending off to a select few beta readers soon and finishing off the cover art and bam. then deciding where to publish. kdp/kobo/my own website.

I'm really digging the new Everon album 'Shells"

Check it out if you like some old school heavy rock/prog rock.

Honestly, having second thoughts about using Amazon at all for any of my self publishing.

Yeah, yeah.. I know. I don't have to use Amazon to publish anything, but I do need amazon with I actually want to make any money.

II know I'm self sabotaging, for the sake of seeking a higher road.

It's been almost 4 months since I even looked at the story. but finally got back into it this week.

Also going back to the cover painting.

I use to do a lot of art when I was young. But now am way out of practice.
So any art, takes me excruciating amount of time... if I want to get it right.

Season 1 of The Expanse is leaving Prime. Where to next?

Is it time to go back to purchasing physical media?

Have watched the series a few times, but its so good. Not ready for it to be gone completely.

First world problems.

Conflicted about Teramaze.

I don’t know if I like them.

I play their records a lot, but I struggle to commit.

With my recent book haul, my list of wonderful vintage paperbacks sitting on the shelf unread is growing.

So I will attempt to rectify this, by trying to read a book a day.

Most of these paperbacks are short 200 page books, but I’m a slow reader. So it will still be a challenge
