If the US wasn't a two party system, Trump would not be President with sweeping king like powers.

Well, I suppose it was inevitable once we elected a tacky new York city developer that he'd turn the White House into one of his tacky projects
Trump waves around renderings of his new ballroom, which appears to be entirely gold

Wonder if Comey thought, "Maybe I shouldn't have brought up her emails two weeks before the 2016 election..."

The problem here is that Italy is split into various quadrants.
For the rest of your life, you can only eat food from one of these regions. Which do you choose?

Promise to end all wars - rename the Department of Defense to War
Champion free speech - bully those they disagree with and ban foreigners whose speech they don't like
Promise to fix the economy - break it in entirely preventable ways for years to come

See a pattern yet?

I guess there are countries who prosecute ex Presidents who tried to overturn elections they lost.
BREAKING: A majority of Brazil’s Supreme Court panel has voted to convict ex-President Jair Bolsonaro for plotting to overturn the 2022 election

Finally reading "The Way of Kings" by @brandonsanderson.com, WOW, what an amazing world and stories

The problem with this country is that too many of its citizens don't want to be in a Democracy. They want their guy to be King.

This is terrible. Don't give up, though. We can get rid of this scourge on our Democracy. Stay involved in local politics, vote, go put and protest, take care of each other.
This is genocidal rhetoric calling people cockroaches. This is exactly the language used in the Rwandan genocide.

My wife is not chronically online like me (fine, I am addicted to the devil screen in my pocket), but she still has notifications on.... how does she stay sane?

If I ran the party that lost not once, but TWICE, to Donald Trump, I would see Zhoran Mamdani as a gift from the heavens. A candidate who speaks to the moment, galvanized a depressed electorate, and WON. Sadly, the party that lost twice to Donald Trump is run by losers, it seems.

I'm curious, if I were a major media organization I would run a survey of New Yorkers asking to rank their Top 10 things that make New York an amazing city and see where "rich people" ranks...

Was having lunch with colleagues yesterday and a much younger colleague (let's say born this century) was talking about how he and his male friends cried at 13 watching "Warrior" with Tom Hardy. Another geriatric millennial man and I looked at each other and said "that's amazing progress for men"

The capitulation of business leaders to this administration is a stain on this country's history.

Something we should address as a society is accepting personal inconveniences for the greater good. This seems to me to be the core of most issues we're facing that are blocking a lot of people from living much better lives.

What is the point of deporting someone not to their country of origin but somewhere hundreds of miles away if not cruelty?
July 16, 2025 at 2:15 PM
One of the many issues with how Social Media has shaped how people behave is the addiction to dopamine from replies, any kind, good or bad. We all know it's much easier to get replies if we say something ludicrous. Problem is, you eventually end up believing your own bs...

All the attacks to Mamdani from cogs in the political machine (that includes a certain newspaper based in New York) would be worrying if you didn't stop to read people's reactions to them. The overwhelming majority are excited for new ideas, for someone who actually cares about them.

I just left the Everglades Immigrant Interment Camp. No, I’m not using their ridiculous name. It was a very tough to witness humans in those cages. Every Floridian should be ashamed that our taxpayer money is being used for this.

You two are amazing and we New Yorkers are lucky to have you in our corner!
Yesterday I was so PROUD to stand with LGBTQ+ New Yorkers alongside my friend and our Democratic nominee for Mayor, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social!

YES.
Generational change is coming: Since Zohran Mamdani won on Tuesday night, more than 1100 young people have reached out to @runforsomething.net to explore a run for local office -- one of our biggest spikes of the year yet.
