Meet Dr. Clotilda Douglas-Yakimchuk, nurse and advocate for the Black community.

Dr. Douglas-Yakimchuk became the first Black Canadian graduate of the Nova Scotia Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 - the only nursing program to respond to her application.

Have you ever heard of or seen pancake ice?

Also known as the “Lily Pads of the Arctic,” these circular ice formations can be up to three metres across and 10 centimetres thick! Pancake ice forms from a thin layer of ice or slush in choppy water.

Meet Dr. Anna Jarvis, pioneer of paediatric emergency medicine in Canada. 🩺

Dr. Jarvis earned her medical degree at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica and was the only emergency physician at the sole hospital on Antigua and Barbuda Islands.
