To wrap up the term, in my human rights course we analyzed a word cloud generated from our semester’s readings. In a world where institutions are tested daily, these concepts aren’t abstract. They highlight debates over sovereignty, accountability, and the role of nations in a fractured world. 🌐

Very excited to have this piece out at the @jodemocracy.bsky.social. We investigate why autocracies resist the expansion of SOGI rights 🏳️‍🌈 in the UN Human Rights Council, and also look at the cases of Russia and Cuba.
The battle over rights for sexual minorities has divided countries into opposing camps. But autocrats are lashing out with one aim: countering the liberal international order.
