Genetic diversity is important. Here is an example the gros michel banana is grown from clones of the same plant this means the genetic diversity is low. Because of this a disease could infect one it can infect all leading to the gros michel banana nearly going extinct.

Female ginkgo trees are a good thing. Female ginkgo trees absorb male ginkgo pollen in spring reducing pollen allergies. Female ginkgo trees also make seeds and while stinky they are very important. Ginkgo seeds are commonly eaten by people. Ginkgo seeds are very important for genetic diversity.
