Diervilla lonicera native to the northern USA these pictures were taken in Michigan this plant is drought tolerant and tolerant of poor soils this should be used more as a landscaping plant in its native range!

Solanum carolinense also known as horsenettle native to the USA the fruits are toxic to humans and pets but edible for lots of wildlife such as wild turkeys and quail and the flowers are pollinated by bumblebees who seem to love them!

Genetic diversity is important. Here is an example the gros michel banana is grown from clones of the same plant this means the genetic diversity is low. Because of this a disease could infect one it can infect all leading to the gros michel banana nearly going extinct.

Female ginkgo trees are a good thing. Female ginkgo trees absorb male ginkgo pollen in spring reducing pollen allergies. Female ginkgo trees also make seeds and while stinky they are very important. Ginkgo seeds are commonly eaten by people. Ginkgo seeds are very important for genetic diversity.
