Big Bad 3 brought me back to my roots. Action films and in particular martial arts films. So here’s my top 16 of all time. Tried to keep it varied. One film per franchise. You may not agree and that’s fine. Yes Enter the Dragon is 1 cause it’s my favorite martial arts film ever.

Current read and current listen. Staying “on brand.”

Just a tip for my Star Wars mutuals, when you get a shitty reply talking shit. Take a glance at the persons profile first. 80% of the times it’s either the Fandom Menace or some Trump long dick rider. Just block and ignore. You can’t reach people like that. Fuck Um.

Until Donnie gets me my Caine spinoff my ranking is locked. Also having all 5 of these in 4K… come on now

Big case of style, cast and fucking 87 Eleven action elevating a pretty standard script and sauceless non action parts. DeArmas sells the action completely and the final third features some truly inventive (ice skates) and jaw dropping set pieces (dual flame throwers) Plus Keanu owns.

So last night was pretty fucking rad.

Ya know, sure would be nice to have BoBF, Andor S2, Acolyte and Skeleton Crew on 4K to complete my collection….

Still magical to me. One of the best theatrical experiences I’ve had in my entire life. Gorgeously shot, great performances especially Daisy, superb score with “Rey’s Theme” being a timer. Fords best performance of the franchise. Plays it safe yes but I could care less.

4K disc rewatch. Honestly, one of my favorite films of all time now. It’s magical. It’s emotional. It’s hopeful. Gunn and co. nailed it. Could watch this movie every week and still get tears in my eyes.

Carnahan is in fine for with this twisty, gritty action thriller. His best since A-Team and Smokin Aces. Damon and Affleck are great, Yuen is fantastic but the rest of the cast gets short changed especially Adkins who crushes his two scenes. Action fucking hits hard.

Next up audio book wise.

There are two types of Joe Carnahan that came after Narc. There’s the A-Team/Smokin Aces Carnahan and then there’s the Boss Level/Cop Shop Carnahan. Two very different levels of quality here. I’m hoping The Rip falls into the former and not the latter…

Finally got to seeing this. 1st 90 is rough. Way too much exposition, not enough action. Second half is held together by a great Cruise performance, the submarine scene and the stellar plan sequence. Loved how it tied it all together but this and 7 can’t touch Fallout

You can have your opinions
On the Disney Star Wars era but ignoring Kennedy’s contribution to film in general not just shepherding Star Wars is a hell of a legacy. Congrats on her retirement, and a cheers to her incredible career.

Finished up the DQ7R demo and it’s utterly delightful and I can’t wait for the full release. Back to chipping away still at Octopath 0 and starting DQXI since it’s a blind spot and continues my 2026 Dragon Quest dive. Too many JPRGs not enough time.

SPOT FUCKING ON.
January 15, 2026 at 3:05 PM
Denzel run continues with another Fuqua banger. A rather generic cop script is hugely elevated by Denzel and Hawke just bringing the absolute fucking heat. Washington is charismatic, lethal and a beast. But Hawke meets him every step of the way.

9 game losing streak, without their top 3 goal scorers and Ducks played their fucking hearts out to finally break the streak. Damn good 3-1 win over the Stars. Hot damn that was a joy to watch
January 14, 2026 at 1:18 PM
Man Denzel and Fuqua just don’t miss. Hell of a franchise starter. Slow burn but when the action hits is awesome. You never doubt Denzel utterly not being in danger because he’s so badass.

Ridley’s sprawling gangster epic. Denzel is on another level, Crowe playing it so cool and almost nervous. Stacked cast and a final shootout that’s incredible. Little too long especially the extended cut but it’s one of Scott’s most overlooked films.

Broke the 50% main story part of Octopath 0 and it “only” took me 48 hrs. Gotta love JRPGs am I right?

Still chipping away at the demo but god damn Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is fucking good. Really good. Glad I turned 2026 into my year of rabbit holing into DQ for its 40th anniversary.
