Only 20 days left until @newcrafts.bsky.social. I will be talking about all things decision. :-D At the end of my talk you will understand a decision better, have some extra vocabulary to use and you know how I applied decision-making to software design. I hope to see you there! ncrafts.io

Have you had enough of all the endless chit-chat about AI? Yeah. I hear you.
So I ain’t sayin’ nuffink other than, I’m running a two-day workshop in Amsterdam on November 17th and 18th, getting the most out of LLM-augmented coding tools and having FUN with it.
Let’s not talk about it. Let’s DO It.

The way we think and the way we design our software systems isn't aligned. In order to make that alignment better, we need to understand our thinking, and the system we are in. In this episode, I spoke with @mentrix.bsky.social on decisions, belief systems versus truth, and non-linear thinking.

We often mock architects being in an ivory tower, making all the decisions, not listening to the developers, and not caring if they made the right architectural choices. What most of us failed to notice was that nobody was offering them a different process to make architectural decisions. [1/3]

Currently working on my new workshop called "Leadership in Software Design". The workshop is going to be great: we will talk about leadership and software design. Other topics we will touch are decisions, people and culture.

What does it mean to be good at communicating? I have tried (and failed) to improve my communication in general because being to communicate your solutions is as important as the solutions. In this episode of Satisfying Software, I spoke with @tekiegirl.bsky.social on the communicating architecture.

Software design is a discipline of uncertainty. We took principles and tools from disciplines of certainty into a discipline of uncertainty and we are surprised when hell breaks lose. On our 1ep of Satisfying Software, I spoke to Barry O’Reilly on finding a better way to architect software system.

The fun thing about working for @aardlingeu.bsky.social is that I have the liberty to do things that help the community. I am very excited to share this new podcast I and my brilliant colleagues Theo and Hilde have been working on called Satisfying Software. First episode will be released soon!

One of the downsides of being on the @dddeu.bsky.social Program Committee is talking to speakers who have super interesting ideas for workshops and not being able to attend them myself. I had a very interesting discussion with Chelsea Troy about her workshop “Put an ML Model in Production with Me!”

At one of my clients, I was asked to give an overview what made a DDD initiative successful and what made it fail. For me, that was a challenging question. To start with: there isn’t a straightforward answer like “if you do all of this, you will succeed” or “avoid these things, and you won’t fail.”

I never see fiction on a list of books that changed someone's thinking. Its always books like “The Scout Mindset”. Don’t get me wrong, that book is an excellent read, but fiction also changes my way of thinking. [1/2]

At DDDEU24, Eric Evans speculated about how DDD and AI would work together. He said to all of us to go out there, try things out and come back next year with our reports and our experiences. I am so excited to see that people went out and actually did that. 1/2

This week I had a discussion with a colleague of mine at Aardling about what Kanban is about, so I tried to summarise why I like Kanban and how I use it.
Note that I might not use the “official” Kanban way of doing things, but instead share my take on what's really valuable. 1/n
