Yes! Yes! Yes!

I cannot believe American insurance companies ever agreed to this crap. (Obviously, Government safety people are asleep at the wheel or toothless.)

I went from a 25 year-old truck to a computerized Subaru. The safest thing I can do in the car is turn the computer off.
Good! An early insight of human centered design is that it was possible to reduce airplane crashes by introducing tactile switches and toggle that did not create confusion or require people to take their eyes away from their core tasks donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-origin...

Hmm. Hampton Inn has been my "go to" hotel for about 20 years.

Yeah, y'all ought to think again about changing that policy.
Context:

@brian-goldstone.bsky.social is author of a powerful 2025 book about the human face of "homelessness": 'There is no place for us.'

Hampton Inn (and others) should change their policy.

Everyone should read Brian's book.
A Hampton Inn in Asheville just canceled my family's reservation because our address (incorrectly) showed Asheville—and the hotel bars locals within 50 miles.

When I asked why, they said, "because of our homeless population," adding that most hotels here have similar policies.

This is outrageous.

Nailed it.

My 2¢.

I saw Trump and Elon in back-to-back new stories once. The "most powerful man in the world" and the "richest man in the world".

They both looked utterly miserable. "People are mean to me." "I've been wronged." "I want revenge."

Pathetic.
it's crazy that 500 years ago, you would see the ruler of your country maybe once in your life and hear whispers that they're the Sun God, but now with social media, you get to see on a daily basis that they're the most unhinged, idiotic, and unhappy person you know

The Poppy and the Parliament is a favorite.
Green Bus Brewing gets a star.
Forgot the name. An alley right across the street from 106 Jeff(erson). (Google Maps doesn't have a new street view yet.)

I work murders. No one is hiding murders. The numbers in these cities and others are down. This is historic good news.
I count 10 cities in 2025 that are on track to have the fewest murders since at least 1970. Newark is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1956 (though only have data through Oct this year) and San Francisco is on pace to have the fewest murders since 1942.

@propublica.org is doing first-rate work.

"We learned that Phoebe was the only hospital in town because it had worked hard — even stealthily — and spent millions of dollars to drive out its old competitor..."
"Not only did it seem that city leaders had failed to recognize the magnitude of the crisis until one of their own had died, they had also made those bearing the brunt of the pandemic feel responsible for their own demise."
ProPublica Managing Editor @gingerthompson.bsky.social set out to write a David-vs.-Goliath narrative about Albany, Georgia’s response to COVID-19.

But she realized there were more enduring questions and challenges facing Albany. They were about race and power.

THIS.

How in the heck can there be no appetite among readers for this type of book?
Also: I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Publishing, let me write a media literacy book, I am begging you. I keep being told that there's no appetite for this...

But how can there NOT be, when it's an urgent and pressing issue, especially with how we aggregate news + use of AI?

I really wish there was an organization where I could volunteer to stand a guard post outside of a judge's home on a regular basis.

Nothing crazy. A 4-hour shift once a week or something. No heroics (my tired, old body doesn't allow that.) Just keep watch and call the cops if something happens.
