A few weeks ago, I drove over to the east shore of Lake Michigan on a good aurora forecast. I spent almost all night on the beach hoping for a show but it was not to be. I did shoot these star trails with some pink aurora on the horizon.

summer nights lit by fireflies

bioluminescence is so incredible, I just stand in awe of nature and watch these tiny creatures create light to find each other.

summer nights lit by fireflies

last week I visited by parents in MO, it’s peak firefly time there and they danced across the pasture all night.

On my last night it was clear and the weather cooperated so I could leave the cameras out all night. 1/2

Today, the House of Representatives will vote on a rescission package that will instantly gut all federal funding for public media. All of it, gone. Here’s more information:

I’m in Escalante UT for a couple of days before heading to Kanab. My goal is lots of Milky Way photos. Here’s a shot from the last time I was in this area- drove by this today.

I managed one shot of the cotton candy cumulonimbus before darker, low-level clouds slid into the top of the frame. It was a gorgeous, surreal moment to see rain still falling over the east side of downtown, while fluffy pink clouds and blue sky belied the strength of the storm still in progress
