Every once in a while, I write something insanely random for a not-so-random reason.

Like this article, where I was spitballing sci-fi Super Bowl-themed ideas and happened upon a post-apocalyptic football movie I'd never seen or heard of.

With Rutger Hauer, Vincent D'Onofrio and Delroy Lindo!
Somehow, I'd Never Heard of This Post-Apocalyptic Football Movie
'The Blood of Heroes' was released in 1989 and stars Rutger Hauer, Delroy Lindo, and Vincent D'Onofrio.

On what’s been a terrible weekend with everything happening in the US, this brought me a huge amount of joy.

Major Star Wars movie updates in Kathleen Kennedy's exit interview.

Mangold's movie on hold (Booo).
Waititi and Glover's movies are active.
Kinberg's trilogy is active, but back to square one.
No mention of Rey or Filoni movies.
Starfighter is standalone but, maybe not.

There's a new 4K out for Cloud Atlas, and while that's all well and good, I was most intrigued by the fact that it included a brand new 2+ hour documentary.

It's unique but well worth your time, especially if you're a fan.
If You Love 'Cloud Atlas,' You've Got to See This New Documentary
The new 4K release has an excellent, star-studded, two-hour look back at the film.

Against the wishes of TLC, I went chasing waterfalls.

Specifically, the number of waterfalls at the end of #StrangerThings5.

Were there three? Why did it just look like two? I dove deep.
The Biggest Debate in 'Stranger Things 5': Were There 3 Waterfalls?
Mike and Eleven wanted to go somewhere with three waterfalls, but did that actually happen?

Happy 2026, everyone.

As usual, I celebrate by revealing my favorite films of the previous year.

I have one or two little issues but for the most part, that was as satisfying a finale as I could imagine. Really enjoyed that.

Been meaning to write about this insanity for a year.

Finally got around to it today.

This is one of my favorite posts to do every year.

The whole io9 team came together to pick the best movie moments of 2025. Some spoilers here, of course, but not if you've kept up on this year's best movies.

I'm excited about this one.

I love Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem so, when I heard there was a short, Home Alone-themed Christmas sequel coming to theaters, I had to learn everything about it.

Here's the result, featuring insight from director Kent Seki and producer Jeff Rowe.
Why the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Are Back in Theaters This Month
'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2 - Lost in New Jersey' is a short film coming to theaters December 19.

Speaking to James Cameron this week (name drop!), he described #AvatarFireAndAsh to me as the third part and conclusion to one Avatar saga.

If the next two films happen, that's another saga. One that his young stars very much want to see happen. "It goes to the next level," one told me. Read here:
James Cameron Says 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' Closes the First 'Avatar' Saga
Films four and five, if they even happen, would tell a whole other saga.

I don't write about video games too often so, when I do, you know it's something special.

Hades II is something special.

Here's my piece on why.
I Can't Believe How in Love I Am With 'Hades 2'
The sequel to the 2020 hit from Supergiant Games is now available on Switch 2, and has me falling in love with the godlike roguelike all over again.

Watched Jay Kelly tonight and it blew me away. I love movies about movies, which this is, but it takes that and makes it universal and human and hilarious and heartbreaking. Clooney and Sandler are incredible. Rest of the cast is insane. One of my favorites of the year for sure.

I really enjoyed the first Wicked, but Wicked For Good missed the mark for me.

Repetitive, confusing, and less than in almost every way. It looks great, the performances are wonderful, but it did not capture the wonder and magic of the first one. Here's my review.
'Wicked: For Good' Never Quite Flies
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo star in the second half of the musical adaptation, in theaters November 21.

So, uh, we're going to the World Cup.

Got two tickets to two games here in LA. Teams TBD, but to see Team USA, one ticket costs as much as all four of these combined.

I'm still shaking, though. No one gets chosen for these lotteries but, Jayne got lucky. I'm so stoked.

Just watched Timothee Chalamet and Adam Sandler discuss their careers together for an hour and a half and it was so much damn fun.

Timothee is rocking that hair because he finished filming Dune Part 3 “three or four days ago.”

As I said, Wake Up Dead Man - A Knives Out Mystery is fantastic, and last night in the Q&A after, Rian Johnson said one of the things that helped him with it was doing an "asshole studio" cut where he pretended to be - you guessed it - an asshole studio executive.

A few months ago, I was at the Ahmanson Theater in LA and noticed a banner for a Paranormal Activity show.

I was confused.

Paranormal Activity was coming...to the stage? What the hell was that? An adaptation of the movie? A new thing?

So, I decided to find out. Here's the story.

Wake Up Dead Man is the best Knives Out yet. Beautiful, fascinating, mysterious, and so, so funny.

Just really loved how much it gets into the weeds on faith and modern society all while being insanely entertaining and everything above. Rian is firing on all cylinders.
