OK, here we go again... Will this turn into a hellsite like the other place? How long before I get a creepy message? Will I get plagued with mansplainers? Here's hoping that none of that happens and this becomes a constructive place on the internet.

OK, now we have everyone's attention about accidental prisoner release because suddenly people are worked up about foreigners being accidentally released - and even though accidental releases have gone on for years - how about everyone focus on what can be done about it & improving prisons overall.

Regardless of politics, I cannot imagine any president of any stripe from my lifetime of nearly 50 years behaving like this. Not one of them. Even those I would disagree with on many things still had enough humanity and fundamental decency to try to help and make sure the person was OK.
This is a real picture captured in the white house today.

Trump is the worst kind of self-involved, attention-seeking narcissist. He's anl empathy vacuum when it comes to considering others, but equally, he would expect all the attention if he was the one who collapsed. And this informs everythng he does. There's always something in it for him.

Quite. When Hadush Kebatu was on the run, there was talk about how the streets weren't safe wth him out there. Sure, nobody wanted him out there, but neither his release or his recapture make anyone any safer. He is just one bad man in a world of bad men who are out there seeking to harm others.

Where is Lord Timpson during the prisons debate? I was delighted when he was appointed prisons minister & thought he could effect real change. Today, I thought maybe his work isn't being reported. A news search shows he last talked to the media about this in May. What's going on? What is he doing?

As you'll know, the US spends $182 billion/year on imprisonment, with a recidivism rate of 60-70% after two years (UK is 50%). Prison is expensive, and doesn't work - this piece on technological incarceration looks at how to get rid of them www.newscientist.com/article/mg26...

The leasehold system in the UK is antiquated, not fit for purpose and frankly, a bit weird. Australia pretty much did away with it years ago and the same thing should happen here.

2. FAST TRACK STATUS FOR EVERYONE FROM CLEARLY UNDAFE COUNTRIES like Sudan, Syria, etc

Dear NHS admin staff,

If a patient asks about sedation for an invasive intimate procedure because of genuine anxiety, please don't make the patient feel stupid for making the inquiry. And please try and call back with a response about the sedation request in the timeframe you gave.

Thanks.

I haven't come across a good Facebook lunatic for a while. But I've just had some weirdo tell me the only travelling I've ever done was a two-week holiday to four islands in 2018. Grimly, they also implied that I'm too unattractive to be sexually assaulted. Jesus Christ, people on the internet...

- Pubs not adapting to changing tastes/more people preferring low/no-alcohol drinks
- Public transport issues
- Safety concerns surrounding pub culture
- Pubs probably look really boring to a lot of young people
- Pub-after-work less of a thing since Covid...
Pub industry folk: What do you make of this?

I'm sure it's not unwelcome but will it make much difference?

My impression is that you're struggling to fill space until 10pm, let alone 1am.

Further to this post, if there's a full transfer bus of people who want to start their holiday, you do not stand right near the bus door and light a cigarette. Your addiction does not trump our desire to check into our hotels and get some sun. People are the worst.
Dear people on holiday in Mallorca today,

If the transfer bus is waiting for you, do not go to McDonald's. Go directly to the bloody bus. You're holding us all up, it's rude and your food is making the bus smell.

Thank you for your cooperation,
