Today, I covered Daryl Bem's 2011 paper "Feeling the Future."

There's always a number of students who have a hard time believing that it is *not* satire or some sort of Sokal hoax; just look at this section discussing alternative interpretations:
1. Precognition or retroactive influence: The participant is, in fact, accessing information yet to be determined in the future, implying that the direction of the causal arrow has been reversed. 2. Clairvoyance/remote viewing: The participant is accessing already determined information in real time, information that is stored in the computer. 3. Psychokinesis: The participant is actually influencing the RNG’s placements of the targets. 4. Artifactual correlation: The output from the RNG is inadequately randomized, containing patterns that fortuitously match participants’ response biases. This produces a spurious correlation between the participant’s guesses and the computer’s placements of the target picture.

On average, female-authored articles take 9 % longer to accept. This gender gap cannot be fully attributed to differences in author affiliation, research productivity, research quality and novelty. The gender composition of editorial boards does not affect acceptance time for female authors. Nevertheless, this gender gap narrows as female representation in an area of research deepens. We find evidence of sub-field differences in this gender gap, consistent with differences in social norms.

Wurde beim Vorstellungsgespräch gefragt ob ich mein DFG Projekt auch selbst geleitet hab. Ich hab gesagt ja, aber das Projekt bestand auch nur aus mir. Alle haben sehr gelacht. In other news ich denke ich krieg die stelle nicht aber konnte mal wieder meinen feinen Mantel tragen.

I started reading up on the whole "loneliness pandemic" narrative because this seems like a literature where the age-period-cohort problem may be relevant (or maybe it isn't?).

Here's data from Australia (HILDA), average agreement with the statement "I often feel very lonely" (SD of ca. 1.8).>
