Great piece by @profmpastor.bsky.social, reporting from L.A.: "The attack on immigrants now is a dry run for the strongman tactics that will later be used on us all. And finding a path of resistance that is fierce but not reckless, mass but not middling, strong but not violent will be a challenge."

Can expectations of accountability in cases of human rights violations falter?

In this piece, @jorgepeniche.bsky.social argues that they can — and indeed, they do — in certain gray zones.

Earlier this month I had the chance to tour the shelter Mexico built in Ciudad Juárez to receive migrants deported by Trump as part of the 'Mexico embraces you' program. The shelter can serve 2,500 people per day, but as of last week they have received 2,800 migrants since Feb.

My story:
‘Mexico embraces you’ shelter in Juárez stands ready, but few migrants arrive to fill it
Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum launched "Mexico embraces you' to receive immigrants deported from U.S. Numbers are low, but the 10-center program continues.

‘Lived experience’ is valued in activism – but is it doing more harm than good?
