For the Madigas, the Dappu is more than a drum. Once tied to caste labour, it became a tool of assertion, resistance, and solidarity. Even today, its beats carry memory and dignity—an enduring act of reclamation against centuries of oppression.

We remember Ayyankali on his 162nd birth anniversary as one of the most fearless leaders who challenged caste oppression in Kerala. Ayyankali taught us that the road to equality and justice is not given but rather, claimed through unyielding courage, resistance and solidarity.

Today, we remember Gail Omvedt on her death anniversary; an anti-caste activist who profoundly shaped the discourse on Dalit politics and women’s lived experiences. (1/n)
