This is mind-blowing! I have never seen footage of the slip that occurs during an earthquake! Here you see the slip that occurred during the Myanmar earthquake. 🤯

Seen this morning just outside the HPPA offices: Pele's hair!
Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is seeing an increase in Pele's hair falling around the Kīlauea summit and nearby communities. These fine strands of volcanic glass are formed during eruptions and can cause skin and eye irritation.

Very excited to be featured in this article talking about my research at @michigantech.bsky.social and NatGeo, and our work with a student at Yachay Tech, my original college in Ecuador.

I cannot get over this Tiny Desk by Ca7riel & Paco Amoroso (best piece at 13min59sec): youtu.be/9kqnsoY94L8?...

Lyrics are not PG so you may not want to turn on subtitles. However, the vibes and artistry are amazing. 20M views in two months (a million are probably mine).

Early career friends & colleagues in volcanology attending @agu.org this year. Don't miss the CONVERSE-ER Social Event tomorrow at 6:30p at the Busboys & Poets Art Cafe in DC. This is a great chance to make new connections and chat about volcano science with other early career folks!
Attn Early Career Volcanologists headed to #AGU24:

Get to know new colleagues, make connections, and talk volcano science this Wed evening at Busboys & Poets Art Cafe. And if you see me around AGU this week, come say hi & get a sweet sticker!

This is wild!
Elsevier has retracted dozens of papers for “fictitious” reviews—ones written under the name of known scientists without their knowledge.

Science talked to Michael Bertram, one of the scientists whose names were used, about his experience. scim.ag/3Bxx7qC

That first photo shows Volcán Chimborazo to the right of smaller Volcán Carihuairazo. Carihuairazo is a small unassuming mountain until you learn that between 2023-2024 it became the first Ecuadorian peak to completely lose its glacier due to climate change :(
SCIENCE ADVENT CALENDAR Day 2:

The tallest point on Earth is a 🌋- Mt Chimborazo in Ecuador (NOT Mt Everest or Mauna Kea). Reason: The Earth bulges at the Equator (where Chimborazo is), so it is "technically" the furthest point from Earth's center.

Ok bsky, show me but you got... I’ll go first: here’s a volcano!

This is Volcán de Fuego in Guatemala, where I currently focus my PhD work. Hopefully, this platform will revive the enthusiasm I had for microblogging science before the Twitter debacle.
