A phenomenal @wildsummituk.bsky.social in Bristol yesterday, with colleagues from across the nature sector.

A privilege to speak on the opening panel, on how Govt can best meet its 2030 nature targets.

Also thought-provoking to hear debates on nature finance, farming, planning and beyond!

A true legend, whose work in nature has created a timeless legacy for the people of London. RIP, dear Mathew.
Deeply sad news that Mathew Frith of @ldnwildlifetrust.bsky.social has passed away.

Mathew was a lifelong champion of London's natural environment, playing a major role in the capital's nature recovery for decades.

I'm proud to have called him a colleague, mentor and friend. Rest In Peace Mathew 💚

Glad to have signed this deeply thought-through letter. It often feels there’s little we can do, yet we can’t let what we witness on our screens & in print numb or paralyse us. Until the civilians of Gaza are safe & given adequate food, water, medical aid & relief. TY @horatioclare.bsky.social

A real pleasure to attend the opening of the new Carbon Garden at @rbgkew.bsky.social.

It highlights the role of carbon in our ecosystems, especially in a warming climate, and mitigation and adaptation measures to combat climate change.

Visit to learn about carbon in our natural world!

After decades of campaigning, restrictions on toxic lead ammunition are finally on the way. 👏

A long-overdue move that will save tens of thousands of birds & countless other wildlife from lead poisoning.

Thank you to all who campaigned with us & to UK Gov for taking this step.

1/ Every year, thousands of BTO volunteers gather data on the state of birds & other wildlife. Our scientists analyse these data to produce official government statistics, reports & peer-reviewed papers. These combined efforts demonstrate very clearly that biodiversity is in trouble and needs help.

Your annual reminder that the County of Middlesex still exists!

Middlesex may not exist in local government, but it endures as a recognised UK historic county.

On 16 May, we celebrate our county's rich history, heritage and natural environment. A very happy Middlesex Day!

I HAVE TO SHARE THIS!

I scattered bird pellets on the grass and went inside the house.

A magpie flew in, picked a pellet, hopped a few steps to the left, pushed it into the ground and then…plucked a daisy and put it on top of the buried pellet! 🤯 @hannahbournetaylor.bsky.social @rspb.bsky.social

The felling of a 450-year-old oak in Enfield is heartbreaking. It's deeply concerning that this could happen so easily.

Ancient trees are an integral part of our natural (and national) heritage. We must give them the protection they deserve, enshrined in law.

The owner of the pub chain falsely claimed the tree was dead as justification for the felling which has shocked local people and prompted outrage from conservationists across the country

I've just returned from a university field trip to Rotterdam. The prevalence of habitats around transport infrastructure is striking - pockets of grassland, parkland and wetland are numerous. They seem such tangible, accessible places that could help reconnect cities with nature.
