I'm having trouble waking up today, but if I drink any more coffee I'm going to need a defibrillator. I need another stimulant. I'm going to try Queen, Life Aid concert 1985.

I think I need more vitamin burrito.

Did Weird Al Yankovic ever do a version of "Walk Like an Egyptian" called "Walk Like a Penguin"? Because that's absolutely a thing that should have happened.

I think the disconnect between Atlantic elites is that Americans think Donald Trump is a kid getting to drive a monster truck for Make A Wish and Europeans and Canadians think Donald Trump is the president of the United States.

The Gilded Age. The Roaring 20s. Neo-Conservatism. I'm wondering what this decade/era of fraudsters and charlatans is going to be called. The classy, historian type guy in me wants to say The False Profits, but the vulgarian (reality/truth seeker) in me just say: The Stupid Bullshit Time.

I hate it when people say "stay in your lane." People should be encouraged to expand their minds and experience to incorporate new ideas.

But don't go nuts. You don't have to stay in your lane, but that doesn't mean swerve into oncoming traffic.

Anyway, here's Lovecraft on women's fashion and sex:
"The 'kick' of abridged feminine garb will last only as long as that garb remains a novelty; for there is really no intrinsic erotic value in nudity."

First read of the year: Jeanette Winterson’s ‘One Aladdin Two Lamps’. I loved the way in which Winterson uses the One Thousand and One Nights stories, and the figure of Aladdin, to make the reader question what matters in life and to raise the idea of changing endings.

You know when you go to the market for toilet paper and beer, but you don't want the people in line to think you're some kind of freak, so you wind up doing a bunch of shopping?

Anyway, I had the stuff to make a seafood (tilapia & shrimp) soup. Lots of heavy cream, broccoli.... Delish.

Has anyone ever done a musical mashup of Twelve Days of Christmas with 99 Bottles of Beer? Because could be a real banger. An exhausting one, but still. Bang.

“I wish to God you could pay more money.”

I wrote about F Scott Fitzgerald’s Christmas wish, and how his difficult final year led him to produce some of his best work: the irresistible, cynical, revealing and very funny Pat Hobby stories.
When F Scott Fitzgerald’s Christmas wish came true
The Pat Hobby stories about a washed-up writer in Hollywood were written to make money fast — they are also the final flowering of Fitzgerald’s eccentric genius

I'm not saying I'm an epic hero or anything, but I just went Christmas shopping. On Dec. 22nd. Suck on that Beowulf.

People say, "This is the worst timeline..." which is a geekism I approve of as a geek who geeks. However, while the current timeline does definitely suck, there's an actual WW3 nuke 'em all event in the timeline being referenced to say nothing of the "We won't go back!" Cpt. Riker alt timeline. 1/

In the shopping cart today (along with the talisman from the elder gods)

Kahlua
Jack Daniels
Eggnog

I'm at a point in life where, of the three, the 'nog is the most concerning....

I found this dried desiccated leaf in my shopping cart at the market today. I assume it’s a message from the green nature gods. By the time I was finished shopping, it had broken up into little pieces so I made a wish on it. Global peace is imminent….

Optimistically, this exemplifies 80-90% of the tech industry over the past 20 years.
An absolute horrific nightmare of two AI bots caught in a loop with each other is the perfect example of the total nothingness of AI “brains”.

Uh, this is clearly totally different. Blue tie. Weird maroon-y tie. Also, this time you can clearly see the woman behind him who looks like she's auditioning to be the world's oldest Bond girl. People always miss the subtleties and nuances of the Trump regime villainy arc.

Yesterday, I was feeling somewhat at my wit's end, so I turned off my phone. I did send a few texts to people explaining I'd not be available by phone that day, but I could still be contacted by email, should anyone really feel the need. I just couldn't bear talking to people that day. 1/
